        The company known today as Mountain Fuels began in 1923 when Bernard R. Peters became what was known in those days as a consignee for Texas Oil Company, known today as Texaco. In the 1960's Mr. Peters passed away and his widow sold the company to Walter Peeney Sr., who in turn sold it to his son-in-law, J. Patrick Hickey Jr., who continued to operate the company as a Texaco distributor under the name B.R. Peters Inc. In 1988 the fuel oil, kerosene, diesel fuel and commercial gasoline portion of the business was sold to long time employees, Karen A. Schlorholtz and William H. Miller Jr., who renamed the company Mountain Fuels and for the past 14 years have continued to serve the homes and businesses of the Poconos with high quality petroleum products backed by a highly experienced "in house" team of service technicians providing both repairs and replacement of residential light commercial heating systems. The President of Mountain Fuels is William H. Miller, a lifelong resident of the Stroudsburg area. Miller joined the former B.R. Peters Inc, as an industrial lubricant salesman in 1979. Married, the father of two daughters and one granddaughter, Miller graduated from Stroudsburg High School, served in Vietnam, and graduated from East Stroudsburg University. Miller is a 35 year veteran of the Stroudsburg Fire Department and chairman of the Stroudsburg Zoning Board. Karen A. Schlorholtz is the Vice President and co-owner of Mountain Fuels joined the former B.R. Peters Inc. in 1979. Karen graduated from Notre Dame High School in East Stroudsburg and Churchman Business College. Married with one son, she and her family are also longtime residents of the area and live in Stroudsburg, where she has been involoved in several civic groups.
