Teeth Cleaning
It is very important that you continue to visit your family dentist once every six months, even during your orthodontic treatment, for teeth cleanings and routine dental checkups. If extra dental care is needed, we will be happy to coordinate with your family dentist to make sure that you are receiving the best care possible.

Keep your retainer clean, too, by brushing it gently with a toothbrush and toothpaste. You may also soak it in denture cleaner as instructed by your orthodontist. Do not put your retainer in boiling water or in the dishwasher.

Dental Implants
The practice of Drs. Dixon and Alexander is one of the few in the state of Connecticut to offer digital 3D X-ray technology. This enhances the ability to diagnose wisdom tooth position in relation to critical nerves and blood vessels in the jaw, to see impacted teeth and their relation to adjacent teeth before correction, to plan correct implants in adults, and to see the consistency and thickness of the bone that teeth will be moved through.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
Most children lose all their baby teeth by age 13, and by the end of their teen years, the jaw bones will harden and stop growing. Orthodontic procedures for adults often take more time and can involve tooth extraction or oral surgery. Receiving early orthodontic treatment as a child can help prevent the need for orthodontics as an adult, leaving little to no chance of extraction or surgery in the future.
Jaw Surgery
Corrective jaw or orthognathic surgery is performed in which the upper jaw, lower jaw, and chin may be repositioned to correct minor and major skeletal and dental irregularities, including the misalignment of jaws and teeth which can improve chewing, speaking, and breathing. Difficulty chewing or biting food, excessive wear of teeth, a receding chin, a protruding jaw, or sleep apnea may indicate the need for corrective jaw surgery.
Maxillofacial Surgery
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is surgery to correct a wide spectrum of diseases, injuries and defects in the head, neck, face, jaws, and the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region. It is a recognized international surgical specialty, and it is one of the nine specialties of dentistry recognized by the American Dental Association.

Braces
Based upon current guidance from the CDC updated medical history forms will be reviewed on a per visit basis and before patients are allowed to be treated. These forms can be found on our website and sent electronically from there. The forms must be filled out before the patient enters the building. New patients, small children and those having braces put on for the first time will be allowed to have a parent accompany them while donning a mask. A hand disinfecting area will be placed outside the front door. Each patient must use hand sanitizer before entering the office/building. Patients will be immediately seated in the clinic or may be asked to wait in the waiting room which has been modified to reflect social distancing guidelines. Staff and patient temperature checks with a touchless thermometer will be performed.

General Dentistry
My passion for dentistry and orthodontics began while I was an orthodontic patient myself! I love working with my hands and expressing my artistic side. I earned my Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from McGill University where I received several awards for academic achievement. After completing a residency in general dentistry at the University of Connecticut, I went on to pursue specialty training in orthodontics at the University of Rochester.
