Cryotherapy
As in children, the treatment of tearing in adults depends on the problem. In tearing resulting from an over-production of tears due to some kind of irritation (called â€œreflex tearingâ€ ), identification and elimination of the irritant can solve the problem. For example, if tearing is due to irritation from an in-turned eyelash, the lash is removed. This can be done manually at first. If the lash recurs, it can be ablated with cryotherapy, electrolysis, or with a laser. Abnormal eyelid position causing excessive tearing may require simple reconstructive procedures done under local anesthesia in the office setting.

Cataracts
Refractive Lens Exchange Surgery (RLE) is an elective surgical procedure. It is ideal if you struggle with near focus, distance focus, astigmatism or general vision correction. Your natural lens is surgically removed and replaced with a full-focus lens implant. The full-focus lens implant will provide a range of vision, from near to far, without the hassle of full-time dependence on glasses or contact lenses. As an added bonus, after RLE, you will never develop a cataract.
Cataract Surgery
Until recently, cataract surgery required the use of a manual surgical blade to open the eye and capsule supporting the lens. This method increases the chance of variability affecting outcomes. With recent LenSxÂ® FDA approval, however, surgeons now have the ability to consistently reproduce incisions without blades. The precision of the laserâ€™s incisions eliminates several variables that have complicated cataract surgery for the past 40 years. Recent results demonstrate that the LenSxÂ® Laser is up to ten times more precise than manual portions of the cataract surgical procedure. Also, laser cataract surgery is customized for each unique eye and performs an advanced astigmatism treatment to ensure the very best visual result.
Eye Exam
Every newborn undergoes a brief eye exam shortly after birth, mainly to ensure that no birth defects of the eye are present. This is usually performed by a pediatrician, family physician, nurse practitioner, or a physicianâ€™s assistant. A similar eye exam should take place between six and 12 months of age, usually during a well-child check-up with a pediatrician or family physician.

Brenn worked for many years in L&D and outpatient OB/GYN, before earning a Master of Science in Nursing degree from Clemson Universityâ€™s FNP Program in 2021. Reconstructive Surgery
Dr. Perumal attended the University of Pennsylvania and received his Medical Degree at Duke University School of Medicine. This was followed by an Internship at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He then completed a Residency in Ophthalmology at the Kresge Eye Institute where he won multiple awards for top research in the program. After residency, he was selected for and completed an intensive two-year fellowship sponsored by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) at Albany Medical Center.

Brow Lift
A brow lift may be performed separately or in conjunction with a ptosis repair or blepharoplasty. Sometimes the main reason for abnormal eyelids is the force of the drooping eyebrow pushing down on the eyelid. This must be corrected in order to provide a proper result.

Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is surgery to remove redundant skin from the upper and/or lower eyelids. It is a safe and effective procedure often combined with removal of the underlying fatty deposits that cause bagginess around the eyelid. The lid crease may also be altered to create a more cosmetically acceptable appearance.

Sara graduated from Clemson University and began her nursing career as a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room at Roper/St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, SC. After moving to Greenville, Sara continued as an OR Nurse at Greenville Memorial Hospital. In 2013, Sara began working closely with a plastic surgeon, where she gained experience in cosmetic surgery and injections. Having developed a passion for medical aesthetics, she returned to school and graduated from the University of South Carolina with her Masters in Nursing.
