Overall

Keith Pumper Plumbing and Heating was sub-contracted to do the HVAC and plumbing on my new home construction. Here are just a few of the things that they did poorly:

1. The wrong water heater was installed (40 instead of 50 gallon). This was rectified relatively quickly, but I financed my own home construction so this delay cost me time and money.

2. Despite many communications to both this company and the general contractor during the construction process that I needed more HVAC airflow (cfm) and cooling capacity than normal for a house this size, they still insisted on selling me the cheapest weakest system they could find that I am now replacing a mere 3.5 years later. (The system they installed would run constantly throughout the day yet the temperature in the house would still rise from 70F or so up to 73F).

3. General delays in getting plumbing fixtures installed on a timely basis. Again, delays cost me time any money. Direct quote from the general contractor: "I’ve been bugging the plumbers on a regular basis on this and expected it to be completed a week ago. I’ll contact them again now."

4. After installing the furnace and AC in my new home, I noticed that the furnace was exceptionally loud (and was also not able to fully cool my home). I even measured the noise with a meter and it showed 76.6 decibels taken from a 6 foot distance from the furnace. This is a good bit louder than even what my large shop vacuum measured to at a similar distance. (For comparison, the furnace in my townhome measured below 50 decibels at a similar distance). I got the runaround for a full two months from Pumper Plumbing before they finally decided to take care of it by bringing a Carrier rep to my house. The actual fix took another full month (replacing the blower wheel in the furnace). This did not completely fix the problem, it is still noisier than it should be but I've been unable to get them to accept this.

5. One of the bathroom sinks was installed but immediately started leaking from the drain, plus one of the handles was loose. These problems all happened with a couple days. Shoddy work, and wasted time and money to fix it.

6. The main waste drain pipe in the basement was found leaking after only a few weeks. This was fixed fairly quickly but it still gave us a mess to clean up.

7. Much of the ductwork (exposed via the unfinished basement) leaked a lot of air. Easy to feel just holding your hand in the vicinity. I decided to just apply some duct tape myself rather than deal with this company yet again.

8. After about 1 year the furnace developed an internal water leak. This was an installation issue not a product defect. It took them over a week to come fix it. There is now a nasty rust stain present.

9. The new home construction came with a 2 year warranty on plumbing but after fixing an issue after only 18 months, Pumper Pumping (tried to) bill me for a repair. I never got any indication that their work was not covered (no estimate prior to repair) nor did they ever correct my very clear request for "warranty work". They sent the bill to a collections agency which I was very easily able to explain why I didn't owe anything and that was that. My credit rating is still perfect. (Nice try though, Mr. Pumper!) As you can see their attitude seems to be screw the customer at every opportunity.

I have emails and other documentation proving all of the above problems occurred. If any skeptics reading this review wants to see copies I'm happy to provide them.
