It is important for every patient to receive an oral cancer screening, but it is increasingly important for smokers, alcohol drinkers, anyone over 40, and anyone who is sexually active.

Resin Composite
Restorations, in the category of Basic Restorative, are composite resin materials used to fill teeth that have become compromised with decay. While numb for your comfort, the dentist will remove decay and bond a composite resin directly in the cavity. Virtually painless, quick and esthetic - this procedure is common and easy for the patient. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is available for any visit.
Veneers
Treatment was completed in approximately 4 hours. This patient had the upper chairside veneers completed in one two-hour appointment, and returned the following day to have the same treatment on her lower teeth. Chairside veneers are always completed in-office, and are finished the same day immediate results.
Crowns
The crown lengthening procedure is designed to increase the amount of viable tooth structure exposed. When decay extends below the gum line, it can often be difficult to attach a restoration. By removing some of the tissue around the tooth, we can often save teeth that, without crown lengthening, would be unrestorable.

Root Canal Treatment
It is a common misconception that a root canal is a painful procedure, when in fact it is the nerve inflammation before the root canal is completed which causes most of the pain. We will make sure your tooth has profound anesthesia before starting the procedure. Once the nerve of the tooth is cleaned and the canals, sterilized, the pain disappears as well.

Gingivectomy and Gingivoplasty
A gingivectomy is a procedure to reshape the gum tissue. This can be done for a variety of reasons, and in a variety of areas. One of the more common areas for a gingivectomy is the anterior teeth. If teeth have the appearance of not being fully erupted, and a lot of gum shows when you smile, a gingivectomy can expose more tooth, giving the appearance that the teeth are longer. Sometimes this is necessary for health, and other times it is a cosmetic procedure. The procedure may be done with a laser, or traditional scalpel.
Deep Cleaning
If it has been a few years between dental visits, or if you are not a regular flosser, tartar may start to deposit below your gums. When tarter builds up below the gum line, a regular cleaning may not be sufficient. When determining the need for such a procedure, we use a periodontal probe to measure pockets around the teeth. We expect healthy teeth to have pockets of 1-3mm. Any pocket 4mm or greater often requires special instruments and more time to remove tarter. It can also be uncomfortable without anesthesia, so we numb all patients before deep cleanings. Because of the increase in time and the fact that the patient will need to be numb, we do not do a full mouth deep cleaning all at once. Most likely we will plan to do a quarter or half of the mouth in one appointment.

Dental treatment at Dental Arts of Downingtown just got even more comfortable with the addition of our iTero Element 2 Scanner. iTero is an intraoral scanner with new digital technology so incredible that it replaces the need for traditional impressions in most cases. In the past we would take dental impressions by having you hold a tray filled with material (goop) in your mouth for several minutes. Then use those impressions for your future crown, bridge, night guard, Invisalign, or other intra-oral appliance. It’s messy, it’s uncomfortable, and it’s one of a patient’s least favorite parts of a dental visit, but iTero replaces all of that with its advanced digital integration technology. This simple scan can easily be downloaded and sent directly to our lab for production of your dental case resulting in a faster, more efficient treatment experience.
Braces
Our office provides Aligner Tooth Movement at affordable costs to you. Clear Correct™ aligner therapy will be an option for most patients wishing to improve their smile without braces. Every 3 weeks you will use a new aligner which gradually shifts your teeth to the proper position. Since the aligners are removable, it is extremely easy to maintain your normal home care routine. Worn approximately 22 hours per day, the aligners are removed only to eat, drink, brush and floss. Call to schedule a free consultation during your next cleaning appointment.

Teeth Whitening
If our doctors feel a combination of the two treatments is best, after whitening at home for 2 weeks, we then perform an in-office whitening. In-office whitening can be completed in addition to the take home trays, and takes about 2 hours.

Dr. Broderick (maiden name: Dr. Rewkowski) practices general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry and comprehensive orthodontics in the office. Originally from the DC area, Dr. Broderick moved to Downingtown with her family in 1989. She graduated from Downingtown High School with honors. She attended Penn State University before her early acceptance to Nova Southeastern University School of Dental Medicine. She joined our team as an associate dentist in 2006. Dr. Broderick became a partner in the practice in May 2015. Her gentle touch and fine skills are paralleled only by her compassion for her patients.
