When I arrived, I was given a ...

When I arrived, I was given a room key on the 54th floor that led to an ukempt room that had not been serviced, looked like people had just left. Had to go back down to the lobby to get a new key for another room.

This wasn't that big of a deal (they did knock off $50 off my reservation total) but the worst hit at night, when I was trying to sleep. I had to call down to the front desk 3 or 4 times just to report the noisy, rambunctious group of people that sounded like they were having a party right outside my door at 2 a.m. After speaking with the hotel manager, he offered to add 5,000 Marriott Rewards points to my Rewards account. I was extremely dissatisfied with the amount of time it took from the first phone call I made to when it finally started calming down (over an hour). I understand that weddings are probably a common occurrence at this particular location, but it was probably not the best choice to place a couple (or anyone not in the wedding party, for that matter) on the same floor as the drunk wedding guests. It gave me a very bad taste for Marriott as this was not the stay I had expected at all.

I found out the next day online that 5,000 points isn't even redeemable for one free night- I would need at least 7,500 Rewards Points for this at the lowest level category Marriott hotel. I don't see myself patronizing Marriott anytime in the future because of my experience.

Overall
Refreshing and Tiger Friendly!

This was a fantastic place to stay for a weekend in Detroit. It provides ease for attending a Tigers' game. The People Mover is on site and takes you to and from the game for only 50 cents while parking our car for only $6 a day across the street!! The staff was superb! They never missed a detail....front desk...security....gift shop....42 Degrees.....EVERYONE we encountered was openly friendly and helpful! The view on the river side led to several satisfying moments of relaxation and continplation with fresh coffee on the 54th floor. We were dissappointed that our stay was so short...leaving right after our uplifting experience in the service at the beautiful historical Mariners' Church of Deroit across the street! The reason for a 4 rather than 5 star is that the layout of the emense facility is confusing...often leading to frustration before locating a familiar location or friendly employee!
