General Info

With over 12 years' experience as Reading Recovery Teacher and Title 1 Reading Teacher, I have a wealth of experience with what kinds of books work best for kids, as well as what kinds of strategies teachers need to teach--but often don't. Sometimes the smallest nudges are the most powerful, and the most lasting--but they tend to get overlooked, because teachers sometimes take it for granted that it is already something everyone knows. But so often, that is just not the case. As an amateur illustrator, my illustrations serve as an excellent model for young children who are learning to match facial expressions with true feelings. It is amazing how just a little change of line can capture the exact feeling a character needs to have! The same is true for characters' body positions, whether they are sitting and thinking, or running and playing. By observing these simple lines, children are encouraged to use them in their own drawings. We know now that huge developmental leaps occur through the practice of drawing.

Clownin' 'Round Readers Book Club provides leveled books for beginning readers that parents and grandparents can download and print. 23 books are available right now. SPECIAL FEATURE: Each book has TWO versions--one for building sight word acquisition (called the "Look & Say" edition), and one using more natural language, usually a level or two higher. With this subscription, you receive a FREE consultation concerning your young reader. Together, we can problem-solve the reading strategies you are seeing, or not seeing, and help your reader grow. The stories are all original, except for a larger volume of nursery rhymes that will be coming in the next year. My family and my students provide wonderful stories!!

These full-color, 16-page books are downloadable, with complete, simple instructions for assembly. If you prefer, I will assemble one complete set for you, no charge for labor, but with a small fee to cover the cost of ink and postage. You may print an UNLIMITED number of copies of these books. Should your child lose one, or tear it, simply print off another book. In addition, you may print them off for other family members, for your Sunday School group, or even your neighbors' children. Most reading consultants offer the reading evaluation at a rate of $80-$100 per hour. You get it for FREE, when you sign up and fill out an assessment form. Based on that information, and our follow-up conversations, I can give you proven strategies to help your young reader become fluent and confident. The books, available in PDF form, are also viewable on an ebook device. Group subscriptions entitle bigger organizations, such as schools and camps, to print as many books as needed for their entire building/organization, for one low price. This is an incredible bargain for cash-strapped school districts, and for camps struggling to make a profit. I am committed to adding six new titles (again, two versions each), every year. Each subscriber will have the option of renewing each year for a reduced rate. This renewal provides you with another free reading consultation, as well as access to all old and new books.
