Smug's Grill N Red's Express

I worked at Smugs from the day they opened for business in 2007, and was recently fired in January of 2009. Now, at first, i loved this bar, it was fun and i made pretty great tips. But the owner, Matt Landy, is an egotistical monster. He promoted me to the bar in Feb 2008, and we started dating about a month after that. Little did i know this man had previously dated other employees of his, at another bar. I didnt know what i was getting myself into but i found out the hard way, through endless emotional stress of harsh words, dodging whatever was being thrown in the kitchen, constant biting my lip, and trying to maintain subordinance and peace.

I fell in September of last year, outside of Smugs, in the ice. I never reported it as injury at the workplace, and should have. I was later told i would need ACL reconstructive surgery in January. I let Matt know well in advance, and continued to work on my hurt knee, until January 3rd of 2009. I forgot to modify an order and put the customers "flavorite" on the side and he flipped out on me, and sent me home, only 9 days before my surgery. Later on he had told me, dont worry about things, i'll take care of you through surgery, and you can come back to smugs after your healed. It didnt happen. I struggled to find work all summer, and all the while, he started a relationship with another female bartender of his while i was carrying his baby, forgetting about me, and what i had sacrficed and been through. This man is so nice when you first meet him. Hes all smiles and seems like a great guy, but he's a monster to his staff, and even when hes wrong, hes right. Ive lived in DU in all of my life, and now i cant even walk down evans without being reminded of what i experienced at smugs. To the DU neighborhood, who i know all too well, to the students, staff and faculty, and to the regulars that still go in to enjoy your flavorites...know the man behind the mask is evil, and a liar. His many flavorites are not homemade, but from from containers purchased at your local grocery store. The green chili, from a can.

Do not buy into his fassad. Do not think your money is being put to good use either. There are many other great bars and restaurants in DU. Smugs is not one of them. Its a joke of an establishment, and a lie. Thanks for reading this, and i hope that ive changed your mind about being part of his bar.
