Welcome to the Delmar Animal Hospital. Our goal is to treat each pet and their owner as we would want to be treated. We are here to provide personalized and preventative medical, surgical and dental care for your dog and cat. Our aim is to be there to guide and advise you through all aspects of your pet’s life: growth, behavior, nutrition, exercise, health maintenance, acute or chronic disease, aging and death.
Vaccination
From the veterinarian's perspective, the ability to rule out Rabies is a good reason to Rabies vaccinate the cat. Diagnosing neurologic diseases is difficult, even more difficult when the patient cannot speak to you. If a cat has neurologic symptoms and is not protected by Rabies vaccination, the veterinarian cannot take Rabies off the list of potential causes for those symptoms. That makes diagnosing and treating that cat's disease even more difficult and costly. When we know the cat is protected by Rabies vaccination, we can immediately look for other diseases and ignore the possibility of Rabies.
Nutritional Counseling

Comprehensive Examination
For those pets that have disease processes known to respond to specific products, we will recommend prescription diets. We carry Purina, Hill’s Science Diet, Royal Canin and Blue Buffalo prescription foods. These prescription diets are treated like medications and require a diagnosis and annual examination. We can only sell prescription diets to current patients.

Parasites Treatment and Control
Our pharmacy includes a complete inventory of medications, nutriceuticals, shampoos, and paracitides including heartworm, flea and tick products. We carry Royal Canin, Purina and Hills Science Diet prescription diets.
Pain Management
We utilize the safest, modern anesthetic agents with multiparameter monitoring by the surgical team and state of the art monitoring equipment. Appropriate pain medication and warming beds are used to keep our surgical patients as stable and comfortable as possible. Electrocautery or cryosurgical units are utilized when appropriate.
Diarrhea Treatment
The ugly: Older dogs that have eaten bones all their life may overindulge or just have a geriatric slow down of digestion, causing the bone particles to compact in their rectum and cause a bone impaction. Certain bones are rich in marrow or associated skin (chicken carcass) causing profuse, watery diarrhea.

Anal Gland Infection Treatment
Our curbside concierge service will continue for appointments where the pet is receiving only a vaccine, injection, booster, nail trims, or anal gland expression, and for urgent care appointments. Curbside will also continue for clients without an active vaccine status or for those who prefer the convenience of curbside!

Chronic Condition Treatment

Thyroid Disease Treatment
We use the Abaxis Vet Scan Analyzer which allows us to have kidney, liver, glucose, proteins, electrolyte and thyroid test results within hours. Our Heska HemaTrue Analyzer gives us complete blood counts and platelet counts in minutes. We are also able to do complete urinalysis, fecal testing, heartworm, feline leukemia and FIV testing, tick disease testing (Lyme, Erlichia and Anaplasmosis). Fine needle aspirate and body fluid analysis can be completed in-house. Full histopathology (biopsy) services are also available through an outside pathology laboratory.

Additional diagnostic aids available include digital radiology (x-rays), Oncura telemedicine ultrasonography with board certified internal medicine review, EKG, tonometry, cytology and Doppler blood pressure monitoring.
Cancer Treatment
We are pleased to have the board certified surgeon, Dr. Tom Bowersox, as our visiting surgeon specialist. Dr. Bowersox brings expert surgical experience to our patients.

Wound and Fracture Care

Veterinary Surgery
Dr. Carrie O’Loughlin shares her veterinary expertise with local wildlife rehabilitators to the benefit of our diverse wildlife population. Birds of prey and other wildlife are vulnerable to injury, often by cars because they fly over or sit on or near roadside. Some injuries require nursing care, others major orthopedic surgery to return the patient to full health needed to be returned to the wild. Sadly, not all patients can be fully healed. But most of these patients have been returned to the wild with Dr. O’Loughlin’s skill and the tender, loving, constant attention of caring wildlife rehabilitators.

Our in-house laboratory enables us to do a wide range of diagnostic testing for monitoring and diagnosing your pet’s health with results often available within hours.
X-Ray
Microchipping
Microchipping allows for 24/7/365 access to database information. For cats, it is a more tenuous situation. Cats going outdoors often don't wear collars because they pose a strangulation threat and many cats slip out of them. Properly fitting break-away collars can carry identification. For cats, microchipping provides the safest and most permanent option for identifing your pet.
