Fibroscan uses a combination of an elastic wave and ultrasound technology to assess the health of the liver. The test itself takes approximately 5-10 minutes and is not painful. During the test, a gel is applied between the ribs and a small probe is placed on the skin. The probe sends a pulse through the skin and a numeric score is recorded, which indicates how much scar tissue is present.
