Dental Examination
General dentists are the main providers of dental care to people of all ages. A trip to your family dentist may include a teeth cleaning, x-rays, an oral examination, or some form of oral surgery, such as dental implants, wisdom teeth removal, or a root canal.
X-rays
X-rays are an important part of your overall dental health. X-rays can both diagnose a problem or prevent one by alerting your family dentist to any questionable areas in your mouth. Intraoral x-rays, or x-rays taken inside of your mouth, give a high level detail to your teeth, gums, and bones supporting the tissues of your mouth. Dental x-rays allow dentists to find cavities, look at tooth roots, check the bones around the teeth, determine if periodontal disease is affecting overall health, review the status of incoming teeth, and monitor good oral health through prevention.

Teeth Cleaning
Your dental team will help prevent and detect gum disease with regular dental cleanings to remove plaque or tartar that are difficult to reach and remove during regular brushing and flossing. This is just one reason that your regular professional cleanings remain so important.
Fluoride Treatment
The in-office fluoride treatment provided by the hygienist as part of your childâ€™s six-month hygiene appointment is a special fluoride designed to penetrate the outer surface of the tooth’s enamel and harden the teeth to prevent cavities. This is completely different than the tablets which primarily address teeth that are growing but have not yet erupted into your childâ€™s mouth.
Dental Sealants
Sealants, or Pit and Fissure Sealants, are preventative dental treatments. Children most commonly get their first cavity in the grooves of an adult tooth, the biting surfaces of the adult molars. Sealants are a thin plastic material that is flowed and bonded into the deep grooves to fill and seal the grooves, helping to prevent decay in this area. Sealants are very effective and should be done on all adult molars as they erupt. Sealants have been shown to have a one-year effectiveness of 83% in reducing caries. Research has also shown that children without sealants are 22% more likely to develop caries.
Space Maintainers
A space maintainer is a device used in the child’s mouth to hold the baby and adult teeth in their proper positions when a baby tooth is lost too early. Failure to hold the space for the adult tooth results in the adult teeth moving into the wrong spot and crowding out adult teeth that will be erupting later.

Crowns
If a filling has come loose or off, seal the area with sugarless gum or over the counter dental cement. If a crown has dislodged, glue it back in place with dental cement and see your family dentist. Emergency dental services will likely not be necessary unless there is extreme pain or swelling.

Dental Bonding

Root Canal Treatment
In many cases, you can have the service you need, provided by a well trained and experienced professional, at our convenient hours and location, and at significantly lower fees than you would pay a specialist. You don’t have to be a patient of this practice to take advantage of these specialized services. It is perfectly acceptable to come to this practice for one specific service and then return to your regular dentist for your routine care â€“ root canals, endodontics, molar root canals, retreating root canals, etc. Dr. Kathleen Hale has extensive postgraduate training in endodontics and has performed literally thousands of root canals. Her endodontic treatment is quick, comfortable, and reasonably priced. Many doctors in this practice and other practices in the area refer their patients to Kathleen for endodontic treatment.

Deep Cleaning
Your dental hygienist may perform another non-surgical treatment called scaling and root planning. During this deeper cleaning procedure done under local anesthetic, your hygienist will scrape away (scale) plaque and tartar from above and below your gum line. Then he or she will smooth (plane) any rough spots on your roots to remove bacteria, restoring a clean surface so your gums can reattach to your teeth.

Eliminate common denture problems, such as slipping or loose dentures, embarrassing sounds like whistling and clicking, gum and mouth irritation, and even mouth pain and irritation

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
Patients may choose IV sedation for oral surgery, wisdom teeth removal, dental implant surgery, root canals, fillings, or almost any dental procedure.
Flap Surgery
Flap surgery/pocket reduction surgery: your gums are lifted back to remove tartar, and irregular surfaces are smoothed to deter bacteria build-up. Your gums are then replaced snugly around your teeth to help eliminate areas where bacteria can hide out.
Tooth Extractions

Invisalign Orthodontics
Dr. Kathleenâ€™s post-doctorate training has concentrated in endodontics (root canals), seniors dentistry, Invisalign, Botox, and dermal fillers. A significant portion of Dr. Kathleenâ€™s practice is straightening teeth and smile/facial enhancement for mature patients. She is also well known for her exceptional skills in childrenâ€™s dentistry and has three times led this practice to NYS recognition for exceptional service during National Childrenâ€™s Dental Health Month.
Braces
This depends greatly upon the situation. In some cases it is best to do some early orthodontic treatment to address issues of growth and jaw size or tooth eruption. However, in most cases, braces are not started until all of the baby teeth are gone, or the early teens.

Teeth Whitening
Through years of chewing, eating, and drinking, tiny cracks form in the enamel, or the outermost layer of the tooth, that collect debris and stains. Teeth whitening removes the stains and debris, uncovering the natural white of the smile.
