Overall

I brought my dog in for treatment for complications with a recent diabetes diagnosis on July 26, 2013 at approximately 6:45 p.m. He was not stable when we arrived and required immediate fluids. Unfortunately, the clinic was understaffed and Dr. Welch, the only veterinarian on duty, recently sustained an injury in a car accident, so my dog had to wait in excess of an hour before the he was able to receive the fluids he needed. I asked repeatedly to stay with him, but I was told that I had to wait. When I was finally permitted to see him, he was panting heavily. I asked if he could have water, and again, I was told to I had to wait. He did not receive any treatment until the vet's assistant/front desk personnel had time to "go over" my quote for $3,000. I quickly signed and asked to visit my dog to tell him goodnight. Again, I was told to wait. After an hour and a half, the assistant/front desk personnel returned to the waiting area and told me that I would not be able to tell my dog goodnight because the vet was in the middle of a procedure. I was told to come back. I asked when I would be able to see him, and I was told to call and someone would let me know if it was a good time to visit.

At 9:05 p.m. I received a call from the clinic directing me to return because my dog was not doing well. When I arrived, the assistant/front desk personnel told me that I was not allowed to take my dog home. She further said that his death was "not imminent," but that he was not responding to treatment, so we should consider euthanasia. I asked to see my dog, and AGAIN, I was told to wait because the vet was in the middle of a procedure. Ten minutes later, I was invited back because my dog's breathing was slowing.

By the time I was allowed back to be with my dog, his tongue was hanging out of his mouth and he was taking his last breath. He died alone, despite the fact that I was in the building begging to see him.

This experience made a painful loss infinitely more difficult. If you value your pet, then I would recommend going elsewhere. The memory of my beloved dog's final day will be scarred in my memory forever.

Dont go there

My vet sent me over there with my critical ill dog who was bleeding so badly she was very weak when I went in and they printed out an estimate of low end $1500. When I told her I didnt have that much money, the vet came out told me to take my dog home and hope it didnt die tonite, i could put her down if I wanted. They made it very clear that the money was more important than my dog. While I was waiting for them to bring my dog out the fast food guy came and they all went into the back room to eat. I brought my dog home who at this moment is barely hanging on... hope for the best morning cant come soon enough for me to get her back to my vet... what kind of people are they?

Don't take your pet here!

Do not take your beloved pet to this place, please! They may be 'close' by but all they care about is your money and not caring for your pet or saving your pets life. There are much better options nearby for emergency veterinary care. I made the mistake of taking my sick 8 week old puppy to this clinic at midnight on a week day. They quickly took him away from me when I walked in the door for what I thought was the beginning of lifesaving measures but, that was not the case. They promptly returned with an estimate for services. The starting price to run a glucose and blood test, fluids and pain medicine was $800.00. The high end of their estimate was $1700.00. While you cannot put a price on the life of a new family member, this is OUTRAGEOUS!! I was concerned that I would not have enough money for the care my puppy needed and so were they. These greedy zombies were not willing to do anything to assist my puppy until we agreed on which estimate I wanted. Meanwhile, my little 8 week old puppy lay in a backroom, out of sight, suffering in agonizing pain. They only cared about the money. The vet never even came out to speak to me to discuss care or possible options. Unfortunately, I did not have money to cover to the high end of the estimate to diagnose my puppies illness. I had to leave the clinic and go to another emergency clinic but not before paying a $90.00 admin fee to simply walk in their front door. I went to the Emergency Animal Clinic on Greenville where the necessary tests were adminstered and treatment was given to save my puppies life for $245.00. It is devastating to me that I made the mistake of taking my pet to this place and he suffered so much pain for my poor decision. Please do not make the same mistake I did by taking your beloved pet here.

Nothing but the best

I recently lost my best friend aka dog and after she passed we called and asked what services they provided for cremation. They were nothing but kind, consoling, and willing to help not only over the phone but also when we arrived at the clinic with the dogs remains. The whole City Vet system, which this is a part of is wonderful a great group of compationate people. Keep up the great work friends!!!!

Can count on them

they are there for you in the middle of the night or weekend when your normal vet is closed. Helped me when one of my dogs had a seizure at 2am. Very helpful and reassuring.
