The Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management, based in Dallas, is one of the largest residency programs in the United States. The department offers fellowship positions in cardiothoracic anesthesiology, neuroanesthesiology, obstetric anesthesiology, pain management, pediatric anesthesiology and trauma anesthesiology. It is located on the campus of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. The university medical center is one of the leading academic medical centers, patient-care providers and research institutions in the nation. Its physicians attend to patients at University Hospitals & Clinics, Parkland Health & Hospital System, Children's Medical Center Dallas, the VA North Texas Health Care System, and numerous other affiliated hospitals and clinical centers in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. Its physicians and residents provide inpatient hospital care to more than 90,000 people and oversee over 1 million outpatient visits annually.
