Oral Surgery
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons are highly trained, and skilled to evaluate and treat facial trauma. Naturally injuries to the face bear a lot of physical and emotional trauma. The doctors at Vancouver Oral Surgery have a “hands on” experience and understanding of how to provide treatment that will affect the patient’s appearance and long term function.
Jaw Surgery
Orthognathic Surgery, known as Corrective Jaw Surgery corrects minor and major dental and skeletal abnormalities. Corrective jaw surgery includes the correction of misaligned jaws and teeth, which will improve speaking, chewing, and breathing. The primary goal is to correct your functional problems, but this procedure can also dramatically enhance your appearance.
Maxillofacial Surgery
Dr. Joseph W. Ducksworth attended the University of Southern Mississippi and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Dr. Ducksworth then attended the University of Tennessee, Memphis from which he received the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. He completed comprehensive Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training at King-Drew/Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA.
Tooth Extractions
Dry sockets are the most common problem following dental surgery. After a tooth extraction, a blood clot forms and lines the empty tooth socket covering the walls of the socket. If the blood clot is prematurely lost, the walls of the socket become exposed. The exposed bone inside of the socket causes a deep, continuous aching pain, similar to an earache. Dry socket pain will even persist after taking your pain medication.
Bone Grafting
Bone grafting is also used to repair supporting bone around your teeth that has been damaged from periodontal disease.

Orthodontics
Sometimes, the upper and lower jaws grow at different rates. Also, birth defects and injuries can also cause jaw misalignment. Orthodontics can usually correct bite problems when only your teeth are not aligned; however, corrective jaw surgery may be necessary to correct jaw misalignment.
Braces
Prior to surgery, you will need to wear braces that will move your teeth into a new position. Since your bite is being prepared so your teeth fit together after surgery, you may think that your teeth donâ€™t fit together properly and your mouth is getting worse. However, when the doctor repositions your jaw, your teeth should fit well together.
