He has altered the old system of using the CRISPR system to read DNA and RNA code to also create induced pluripotent stem cells. Ding described his work by saying, “We maintained the Cas9, or CRISPR genome localization function, but inactivated the DNA cutting function. On top of that, we fused a transcriptional activation factor with the Cas9 protein so that we could activate transcription at a specific genomic location.” To put his work simply, Ding has created a gateway into more stem cell research that can be essential for dental operations. Sheng has provided a way to read pluripotent stem cells in the tissue of the mouth so that oral exams can also take stem cells into account for disease prevention.

X-rays
We take comprehensive dental exams and x-rays and photos to help diagnose and come up with solutions to any dental problem your child may have. We can treat overbite, underbite, bucked teeth, crooked teeth, or any negative condition involving your child’s teeth or your child’s bite. Root Canal Treatment
Soft-Tissue Surgery: Are you still not convinced of the diode laser’s many capabilities ? How about looking at the fact that it can perform soft-tissue surgery. It is able to remove tumors and deposits from the tissue of the mouth without the patient having to go through an intense surgery with an extensive recovery phase. The laser can kill many forms of bacteria, so it is often used to sterilize areas of the mouth during operations such as root canals or cavity treatment.

Dr. Gerry Ahrens grew up in Louisville, Kentucky and graduated from Louisville Male High School where he succeeded in academics and lettered in three athletic programs. He was the schoolâ€™s starting quarterback, and his football team won the state tournament during his Senior Year when he was named an All-American by USA Today. Dr. Gerry earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Louisville, while also lettering in football. From there, he went on to earn his DMD Degree from the University of Kentucky, and he completed his orthodontic residency at New York University's School of Dentistry. Dr. Gerry is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Southern Association of Orthodontists, and the Louisville and Kentucky Dental Associations. He has specialized training in surgical treatments, standard edgewise brackets, lingual braces, and mini-implants for orthodontic anchorage (TADS). He is currently lecturing for Forestadent, an international bracket provider. Additionally, Dr. Gerry is an Invisalign preferred provider and is Laser certified. His knowledge of the latest developments in orthodontic procedures has been a tremendous asset to the practice. In his free time, Dr Gerry enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He is a sports enthusiast and helps coach local middle and high school football and basketball teams.

Oral Surgery
Jaw Surgery
In adults, jaw surgeries may be recommended to correct the orthopedic imbalances or skeletal growth deformities. However, at Ahrens Orthodontics, dentofacial orthopedic therapies have been successfully used to treat adults for years and in many cases have eliminated the need for jaw surgery. Orthodontics will often accompany dentofacial therapies or jaw surgery to properly align the teeth and eliminate the malocclusion completely.
Maxillofacial Surgery
Prior to doing surgery there is approximately a year and a half spent for alignment. Surgical orthodontics, also known as orthognathic surgery, is a type of orthodontic treatment used to correct severe cases that include bad bites, jaw bone abnormalities, and malocclusion. Oral and maxillofacial surgery is one of the nine dental specialties, and focuses on treating complex craniofacial cases that involve the mouth, jaw, face, and skull. Your orthodontist will work with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon to ensure that if you need surgical orthodontics, you receive the best care possible.

A native Louisvillian, Dr. Doug Ahrens graduated from Westport High School and acquired his BA degree in business and his pre-dental training at Georgetown College. He received his DMD degree at the University of Louisville in 1976 and completed his orthodontics residency in 1978. Dr. Ahrens is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Southern Association of Orthodontists, the Kentucky Assocation of Orthodontists, the Louisville and Kentucky Association of Dentists, and is a certified Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and has been a qualified examiner for the Kentucky State Orthodontics Board. Dr. Ahrens received his board certificate in 1987. Only 25% or practicing orthodontists in the United States are board certified. This examination process takes years to complete and demonstrates his ability to solve a wide range of orthodontic problems.
Invisalign Orthodontics
Invisalign patients wear a series of aligners for about two weeks and remove them only to eat, drink, brush and floss. As each aligner is replaced with the next in the series, the teeth move little by little, week by week, until they have straightened to the final position Dr. Ahrens has prescribed. You'll visit Dr. Ahrens about once every six weeks to ensure that your treatment progresses as planned. Total treatment time averages nine to 15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.
Braces
When you have braces, it's very important to brush and floss after every meal in order to keep your teeth and gums healthy throughout your orthodontic treatment.

Teeth Whitening
Teeth Whitening: A secondary focus o the diode laser is its incomparable ability to lock on a coat of teeth-whitening gel. Before the use of the diode laser not too long ago, over-the-counter whitening products only reached a maximum of making teeth five shades lighter. The diode laser treatment can now whiten teeth up to ten shades lighter, doubling the previous processes.
