Most people are unaware that glaucoma is a serious health concern. As people get older and start seeing doctors more regularly, they are often advised to get their eyes examined.

This Phase II/III investigational trial will include approximately 200 patients from 30 leading research universities and ophthalmology centers across the U.S of which the Eye Laser Center in Tucson is one.
Macular Degeneration
Macular Degeneration is an eye condition in which the macula, a sensitive area in the retina responsible for central and detail vision, is damaged, often causing loss of central vision.
Laser Eye Surgery
Everyone experiences symptoms of dry eyes at one time or another. Conditions that speed up the evaporation of tears from the surface of the eye such as dry, arid climates, wind, a fan blowing, an air conditioner or heater blowing in your car, or sitting in front of a fireplace, can all bring on the symptoms of dry eye. If you have recently had LASIK or other eye surgery, you may notice symptoms of dry eye now that you no longer wear eyeglasses or contacts.
Cataracts
Individuals who have undergone surgery for cataracts in both eyes are not eligible for this clinical trial.
Cataract Surgery
When the clouded lens of the eye is removed during cataract surgery, a replacement for the human lens is needed to restore focus to the eye. This implant is called an intraocular lens (IOL). The first foldable intraocular lenses were implanted in 1984, These lenses revolutionized cataract surgery because they could be folded and injected into the eye through a tiny incision. At the time of surgery, your doctor will determine which intraocular lens is best suited for you.
Eye Exam
You should be provided with a copy of your prescription, you are entitled to the most complete medical eye examination possible, with written instructions and explanations, as well as a complete discussion with your physician about your condition with all of your questions answered and your concerns addressed.

Smokers and ex-smokers probably should not take beta-carotene, as studies have shown a link between beta-carotene use and lung cancer among smokers.

Many approaches to treatment such as interferon, radiation therapy, surgery to relocate the diseased area of the retina, blood plasma filtration treatments and photodynamic therapy have not yielded an improvement in vision.

Dr. Kershner pursued his undergraduate studies at Boston University and received his Masters of Science and Doctor of Medicine degrees with honors at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He completed his Internship in General Surgery, his specialty training in Ophthalmology at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center in Tucson and was chief resident in Ophthalmology at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City.
