Dental Examination
It is normally recommended that patients have a dental examination and cleaning two times annually. Cortland County does not have a fluoridated water supply, which means frequent dental cleanings and exams are critical to maintaining dental health, particularly in this area.

Oral Cancer Screening
Preliminary cancer screening is part of every doctor exam (and is included with hygiene appointment). The doctor will visually examine the oral cavity and feel the neck and head region for any possible issues.

Teeth Cleaning
For patients with periodontal (gum disease) concerns, our office works closely with area periodontists. It is often recommended these patients adhere to a three month dental cleaning schedule. We share in the goal of maintaining optimal periodontal care and support, and we are able to provide early stage periodontal cleanings prior to specialist-care, saving you the funds.

Dental Sealants
Sealants are protective coatings which are usually placed on the chewing surfaces of back teeth, especially molars, to help prevent decay. The grooves and fissures in the back teeth can be extremely difficult to keep clean, and those grooves can be too deep for a toothbrush to even reach. These are areas where bacteria found in plaque can get trapped. They produce acid where they contact sugars that we eat. This acid will weaken the surface of the tooth, in time causing cavities. Sealants are a great way to help prevent the process of cavity formation.

Resin Composite
Veneers
Bonding is a term used to describe closing the spaces in the front teeth. It is a procedure where "tooth colored" fillings are adhered to the tooth structure to close the spaces - a less expensive procedure compared to veneers.
Crowns
Crowns are now done with our in-house Cerec milling system, so you can wait a short time for the finished product! We are thrilled with this new technology and can finally produce crowns with materials which are very similar in appearance to the natural variation and coloring of your individual teeth.
Bridges

Root Canal Treatment
A root canal is a filling that is placed inside of the tooth where the nerve used to be. It is placded there due to changes in the nerve that can lead to inflammation, pain or infection to the nerve. Symptoms of a painful nerve or toothache can heal given time and/or medication, or sometimes if a tooth continues to be painful. Even if the nerve dies without pain, a root canal is still necessary to seal the dead space in the tooth, which will help to prevent future infection in the tooth. Most patients are relieved and amazed to learn that root canal therapy is much easier and more straightforward than they imagined it to be.

Dental Implants
Implants are a great way to replace a missing tooth, and are now done completely in office without referrals to specialists! This will save the patient a significant amount of money, but also ensures there are no communication, or timing issues due to coordination with specialists.

Teeth Whitening
Whitening (or bleaching) is very popular - you can find many over the counter products on the market. We recommend the tray system, which is clinically proven to far surpass other methods of bleaching, for keeping your teeth white for long periods of time. This method includes treatment-strength bleach at home. We continue to have wonderful success with this system and can lighten most individuals teeth between 2-4 shades. Once you have bleached 7-14 days, you can purchase bleach to "touch up" once/twice a year. With good maintenance your trays should last for many years, unlike the over-the-counter throw away products.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Dr. Clark-Lowell received her undergraduate degree from Wells College in Aurora, NY. She then went on to the University of Connecticut where she received her doctorate in Dental Medicine and was awarded the Academy of General Dentistry "Best General Dentist" award. At the time of this writing she is the first female president of the 6th District Dental Society (9 counties in the central/southern tier). She is a member of the Cortland County Dental Socitey and is a general practitioner who handles a wide variety of dental needs from simple needs to full mouth reconstruction. Dr. Clark-Lowell provides quality dental care for the whole family beginning at the age of 4. She has been practicing in Cortland for 10 years. The office offers a wide variety of services which include but are not limited to: routine cleanings/checkups, digital x-rays, restorative treatment, anxiety control, full mouth reconstruction, restoration of dental implants, and various forms of cosmetic dentistry.
