The War Memorial Library, a Carnegie Library built in 1929, has been vacant for many years. J-S&A has designed the building for reuse as housing. The outstanding interior millwork, fireplaces and mantels will be restored as well as many of its original features, once funding and financing is secured.

The owners of this Arts and Crafts era house were in need of additional space. An addition was designed to complement the original house, to add space on the first and second floors, as well as additional garage space. Details from other portions of the home were replicated to tie the new construction with the old.

1893 brick building in historic district of Corning, NY. Mixed use building with 7,870 sf of rehabilitation. New building use: 1st floor retail, and 2nd-5th floors, market-rate apartments. Upgrades to meet safety and fire codes with sprinkler systems, additional fire-rated stair, fire escape, elevator. Restoration to meet SHPO and National Park Service requirements.

Window Installation/Replacement

Carpentry
Scope of project is the preservation and rehabilitation of a particularly significant historic structure in the Village of Bath for mixed use (residential and commercial). This 16,050 sf building will be restored (original façade) and rehabilitated for use as commercial on the first floor, controlled environment basement storage and market rate apartments on the second and third floors. Significant NYS Building Code review work by Johnson-Schmidt & Associates will lead to upgrades to meet safety and fire codes with sprinkler systems, handicapped accessibility and fire-rated stairways. The building façade masonry, windows and carpentry will be restored in keeping with its original configuration and historic preservation standards.
Masonry
Trinity Episcopal Church hired Johnson-Schmidt & Associates to evaluate the condition of the church’s exterior masonry. The condition of the steeple was found to be in peril of losing the upper portion including the cross (which was poorly attached to the failed masonry). The steeple was stabilized for the winter, the cross removed and the following spring, the steeple was deconstructed and restored.
