We adopted a dog from ASAS and could not be happier. Our experience was wonderful from seeing an extremely clean facility, comfortable animals not in cages, staff was professional, caring and informative.
The application was a bit long, but we did not mind because the animals certainly deserve to go to a loving and caring home. Meredith Fiel seems to run a tight ship with all proper legal documentation on our new addition to our family. Pups records were up to date from transport to DVM records.
There are no guarantees with any adoption and we wanted to make sure where we adopted from made certain the dogs all have DVM certificates of health and proper legal documentation. Not much more they can do. We also know for a fact Meredeth Fiel has paid for animals veterinary care and sent food to those in need for their pets, that were not adopted from her shelter. Also donating oxygen masks for pets to our local fire departments. That spoke volumes to me looking to support someone with a voice and a heart for animals.
We love our adopted girl and would encourage anyone to adopt from ASAS

Do not go to this place unless you are willing to take care of a sick animal. Unfortunately my boyfriend and I went here and adopted a new kitten. We got her has a little sister for our other kitten who is a few weeks older than she. We adopted her on a Thursday and were more then excited. Our animals are our only family at this point and we care about them very much. By Monday the new kitten we had adopted was extremely sick. She also spread the sickness to our kitten we already had. It costed us over 400 dollars to nurse her to health so far. We are still caring for our other kitten and hope that he makes a recovery as well. He was a strong healthy boy so as you could imagine it was heart breaking for us. I will never recommend this place to anyone. It makes me very sad because there are so many animals there. I would love to help them but this place has broken my trust and hurt our family.

My family adopted a kitten here. We were shocked about the number of cats and kittens they kept in one room!! They told us he was healthy. Within less than 24 hours of her being home we noticed that he had running eyes and was sneezing a lot! It quickly progressed to the point where he was struggling to breathe. We did called right away. They offered us medication without even having him checked by a vet. We thought this was odd so decided to take him to our vet. They told us that he has a virus! He will have this for his entire life and we will have to give him medication every day. We have another cat from a different shelter who are very healthy. Now he is a risk for getting this as well. I am deeply saddened and disappointed that we were not told about this ahead of time. Or that Adirondack save a stray did not notice this poor kitten was sick? Would not recommend this place to anyone!!!!!

We adopted two cats from ASAS. Both had ringworm. We spent over $2000.00 to get these two well. DO NOT EVER GET ANY ANIMAL FROM THESE PEOPLE. THEY ARE THE WORST! PLACE IS DIRTY AND ALL ANIMALS ARE USUALLY SICK!

Adirondack Save A Stray is doing a wonderful job saving so many animals. We adopted 2 wonderful cats 1 year ago and just adopted a puppy. Everyone is so wonderful at Adirondack and I would definitely recommend adopting from them to allow them space to save even more animals! We had a great experience with all 3 adoptions!

I adopted my puppy here in June of 2014. Three days later our puppy became extremely sick. We rushed her to vet and it was there that we found out that she had PARVO. We spent over 2000 dollars to save her and luckily she is alive and happy today. We later found out that ASAS knew (before we even adopted our puppy) that one of her litter mates had died of PARVO and they still adopted all the other puppies out without warning. They don't care about these animals. Meredith is in it for the money. Don't let them fool you with their lengthy application either. They didn't even look over our application before letting us leave with our puppy and half the questions we didn't even answer bc they were ridiculous. THIS PLACE NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN. Those poor animals who get sick because of this place and don't make it. My heart hurts thinking about it. (I gave ONE star ONLY because I had to give one to write my review.)

I adopted my 1st puppy here when i was 7 years old. I grew up with this dog by my side till we sadly had to make the decision to let him cross the rainbow bridge just after his 13th birthday. Because of this dog I had dreamed of volunteering at this shelter since my first day with him and for the last 2 years my dreams have came true. I got my Vet Assistant degree and have enjoyed every moment of my time here. Working along the side of the wonderful Vet, Vet Assistants and volunteers has been the most rewarding and humbling experience I ever could have asked for. Thank you Meredith and Adirondack Save A Stray!!

The worst place to Adopt a stray pet! I'm sure if you were able to see the paperwork you would find all the animals are from puppy mills! DON'T GO HERE!

In recent months our vet hospital has treated more than a few pets that came from ASAS. After hundred and often thousands of dollars being spent and families having their hearts broken the outcome, all to often has been the same, the loss of a pet. We've seen cases of parvo and distemper. ASAS, although well intended, should be shut down. One star is too many for this place. Adopt through your local animal shelter. Unlike ASAS the shelters will properly screen pets and make sure they are healthy before adopting out. Today a really good family, who lost their beloved family dog last month and recently adopted from ASAS were devastated they had to put their new pup down. They spent over $3000 trying to do right by their new pup. He died a terrible death and our staff were deeply pained to see what the family and this beautiful little puppy had to go through.

Overall

Adirondack Save a Stray routinely rescues animals from high-kill shelters down south where they still inhumanely gas animals. The shelter does its best. Animals may not always be perfect, but they deserve a home, a life, and deserve to be loved. If there's a flea or tick or worm somewhere, so be it. These animals had it hard.

BEWARE!!!!! Wanted to get my grandmother a cat for Christmas, instead I gave her RINGWORM. The women told us that the cat we adopted was healthy. When we asked about a patch on her skin they told us that she had just been treated for "flea dirt." Complete lies. When we took the cat to the vet it had RINGWORM which was passed to my grandmother. Not to mention they didn't want to take responsibility. NIGHTMARE.

Very nice people

I had a wonderful experience with this facilty. They do the best job possible under very hard circumstances. I was there and someone just dropped off a litter of kittens in a box on the front door and they handled it with grace and profesionally. Apparently this happens to them al lot.

Meredith and her staff are wonderful and deserve much appreciation from locals. So please donate food, clean bedding and in this enconomy donations for most are difficult. Food and bedding would be much appreciated. Stay away from SPCA of Queensbury, they are judgemental and the conditions in the dog area are disgusting!

Good experience and wonderful "kids"

I know people have had negative experiences here, but I have adopted three animals from them - one dog and two cats and all experiences have been very positive. The process was smooth and encouraging and I couldn't ask for more wonderful additions to my home.

RUDE

I called this shelter to be answered by a very rude person. She started the conversation with what is it, cats, can't take any have over 100. Why can't you keep it? I tried to explain it was my Mom's cat, she had passed away. Her answer was, "well, that's your responsibilty you take care of it, your mother would be mad at you if you got rid of it." I told her I thought she was being very rude she did not know the circumstances and had no right to speak to anyone that way. I am 62 years old and have reasons I cannot keep the cat due to health. To have someone who is in this position talk to anyone from the public is unaccptable. I always supported and contributed to this shelter, but no more. There are plenty of other shelters around that will be happy to get my donation. I hope she treats the animals better!
