Child Support
Marriage is not only the union of two people, according Texas Law, it is also a sort of contractual relationship. When a marriage comes to an end, decisions have to be made as to what happens to the possessions that the couple has acquired during their marriage. These decisions can be made by the parties on their own, in mediation, or made by a court. If there are children involved, decisions will have to be made about where the children live and who pays for child support and health insurance. Though these seem like the main issues, they are only the “tip of iceberg,” so to speak, of the complexities that are found in divorce cases.
Child Custody and Visitation
Rightfully so, child custody issues are some of the most emotional and trying cases that attorneys face. When families have split up, each parent proceeds with with their own set of parenting skills and goes about raising the child as they see fit. Often these parenting practices are at odds with each other. Also, many times one parent is not living up to their responsibilities in raising their child such that it would be in the best interest of the child to live with the other parent, or that a parent have none or only supervised visitation.

Spousal Support
Some debts are not discharged. Child support, alimony, student loans and taxes are the most common debts which are not discharged. Child support and alimony are never discharged. Student loans will not be discharged unless the debtor files a lawsuit against the lender and convinces the bankruptcy judge that requiring them to repay the debt will constitute an UNDUE hardship. Student loan hardship discharges are rarely granted.

Criminal Defense
After more than a decade of practicing law, Mr. Baker has handled thousands of criminal cases at both the pre-trial and trial stage. In addition to criminal defense, Mr. Baker has litigated to juries both civil and domestic cases across Southeast Texas. Misdemeanors
I charge between $500 and $1,500 to negotiate a plea on a misdemeanor criminal charge and $1000 and up for a felony charge depending on the complexity of the case. A misdemeanor criminal trial will cost between $1,500 and $5,000 depending on the anticipated length of the trial and the complexity of the case. Felony trials are unique, but ordinarily I will not take a felony case to trial for less than $5,000. Prices are discounted for multiple cases, and we also accept MasterCard, Visa and American Express. While this may seem like a lot of money, you must consider that a class A misdemeanor can cost you up to $4,000 in fines and a class B misdemeanor can cost up to $2,000 in fines alone. That doesn’t even account for court costs, probation fees, court-ordered classes, and lost time from work. In almost every case, I may be able to save you some money in fines, time spent paying probation fees, and time spent away from work doing community service. Consider for yourself whether you may actually save money by hiring a lawyer.
Juvenile Crimes
Admitted to the practice of law in 1996, Mr. Beck began work as an oil and gas litigation lawyer in Houston, Texas. This encompassing area of law exposed Mr. Beck to a large amount of civil litigation, property rights disputes, secured transactions, commercial bankrutcy, business disputes and commercial litigation. Power of Attorney

Bankruptcy
Chapter 7 is a liquidation bankruptcy. In this type of bankruptcy, you don’t have to repay your unsecured debts; they are discharged (A discharge is a Court order stating that you do not have to repay). Some debts can’t be discharged in a bankruptcy and must be paid. Most unsecured debts are usually discharged. You may be eligible for this type of bankruptcy if you are able to pay your monthly living expenses and any secured debt payments but don’t have any money left over to make payments on unsecured debts. A trustee is appointed by the Bankruptcy Court to review your case. One of the trustee’s jobs is to see if you have any assets that are not protected by bankruptcy law. Almost everyone who files Chapter 7 in Texas gets to keep all of their assets. Your attorney can tell you before you file your case if any of your assets are at risk. If you do have an asset that is not protected, the Trustee can sell it and use the money to repay a portion of your unsecured debt. You have to be current on your secured payments (house note, car note, etc.) or the lender can take back their property.
