I am a physician-scientist who specializes in head and neck cancer surgery. I pioneered the use of sentinel lymph node biopsy as a safe and reliable tool to stage patients with melanoma of the head and neck area. My research focuses on identifying and evaluating biomarkers that can predict outcomes, as well as developing therapies that combat certain types of head and neck cancer that are resistant to traditional forms of treatment. I have been the principal or co-principal investigator on more than 30 grants, and I have authored nearly 300 journal articles and more than 20 book chapter was appointed dean of The Ohio State University College of Medicine in October 2020. I also serve as the Leslie H. and Abigail S. Wexner Dean's Chair in Medicine and vice president for Health Sciences at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. I was inducted into the National Academy of Medicine in 2014 and currently serve as president of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. I was elected as the first woman president of the American Head and Neck Society in 2012 and received the 2009 Physician of the Year Award from Castle Connolly for Clinical Excellence. Additionally, I have been consistently featured on the Castle Connolly list of "Best Doctors" since 200 efore joining Ohio State, I had an illustrious career at the University of Michigan, where I served as the executive vice dean of academic affairs at the University of Michigan Medical School and as chief academic officer for Michigan Medicine. In these roles, I oversaw education, global initiatives, faculty affairs, faculty development, diversity, equity and inclusion, and regulatory affairs.
