Shelby Humane Society

I went into the Shelby Humane center in August 2015 with plans to adopt 2 dogs. I had recently lost one rescue and wanted to do all I could to rescue 2 dogs this time. I picked out 2 beautiful dogs ,,- one small terrier mix and one large husky mix. I paid the fees and they were scheduled to be "fixed". Casey, who works at the shelter, called me back in a few days and explained that the husky mix didn't pass his behavioral tests and needed to be placed in a special foster home experienced in working with aggressive dogs. The terrier did great in all her tests and she's been a very loving, playful member of the family ever since. These folks are great and very helpful whether you're new to the adoption process or if you've saved many. I will go back for my future dogs when that time comes. Please adopt and save a life!

Sara, the director, was extremely helpful answering questions and with follow up calls. She gave us tons of resources and helped us pick from their variety of animals. All of the animals were in great health and we adopted Bailey that day! She is a Catahoula/ lab mix and beautiful! She is so energetic and playful. We love her! I must mention the cleanliness of the facility. Before going to the facility in Columbiana, AL, I didnt know what to expect, but i was amazed at the clean floors, clean cages and clean dog pens. They have special prices during some months and the animals are spayed/neutered and current on vaccinations. That alone equals the cost of adoption. I highly recommend going to the Shelby Humane Society if you are looking for a pet. It was an easy and rewarding experience to adopt from them. Thank you so much Sara!
