While COVID-19 continues to present a substantial increased risk of mortality among older adults and individuals with underlying medical conditions in the State of Colorado, isolation of individuals in nursing and rehabilitation facilities, as well as other congregate settings impose substantial physical and mental health consequences for these patients. Social distancing and use of electronic means of communication remain strongly recommended; however, the State of Colorado, in an effort to promote the health and well-being of Coloradoâ€™s patients, will allow for indoor visitation in facilities.

Medicare covers skilled care in a skilled nursing facility (SNF) under certain conditions for a limited time. Skilled care is health care given when you need skilled nursing or rehabilitation staff to manage, observe and evaluate your care. Examples of skilled care include changing sterile dressings and physical therapy. These services must be provided in a Medicare-certified Skilled Nursing Facility. Care that can be given by non-professional staff is not considered skilled care. Medicare covers certain skilled care services that are needed daily on a short-term basis (up to 100 days).
