Central Vermont Public Service Corporation is an independent, investor-owned company that provides energy and energy-related services to customers throughout Vermont. CVPS serves more than 151,000 customers in nearly 75 percent of the towns, villages and cities in Vermont. The company has one non-regulated business, Eversant, which sells and rents electric water heaters through a subsidiary, SmartEnergy Water Heating Services. Services provided by the company include utility operations and maintenance, energy delivery and construction, engineering and project management and nonelectric wire construction. CVPS was organized in 1929 through the consolidation of nearly 10 electric companies. Central Vermont Public Service Corporation maintains corporate headquarters in Rutland, Vt.
