Had my PT Cruiser taken to this shop which unfortunately was recommended? What a mistake. Car stopped running because the filter clogged. (Was due for a change in fluid) . First off was told I needed the transmission rebuilt. Scott the service rep failed to say they actually drove it into the shop. Previously would not move. Told me just too open it up and look inside would be 800 and then what ever needs to be done would be extra. Said he could not tell what was wrong without this.

Fact 1: turn the ignition on and off three times and without starting a PT cruiser will give transmission codes for what is wrong.

Fact 2: The transmission on the PT cruiser and the Neon are the same in 2001.

Fact 3: They have a computer inside that a diagnostic can be done that will tell what the wear is on each part inside no need to open up the transmission.

Fact 4: most Chryslers use ATF+2 however the 2001 specifically requires ATF+4 which is actually written on the dipstick.

Fact 5: Chrysler specifically states not to use a dextran additive as it may damage a transmission.



When we arrived they put the car in gear it tried to move but made a lot of noise. Scott stated “something is broken inside banging around”. I had done some research which told me a dirty filter could prevent the car from moving. So I asked to do transmission flush and filter change. This fixed the issue and was able to drive home. Drove car home and parked the car later cleaned the car up and checked fluids and pulled the dipstick for the transmission. It was a foaming whitish pink color. This being my second PT cruiser I was immediately alarmed and did not drive the car till I was able to call back to find out what type of fluid they put in the car I asked the mechanic that worked on it and not Scott. The answer was we used a transmission fluid with a dextran additive. I explained this car requires ATF+4 or higher and the manual specifically states not to use a dextran additive and from everything I have read it will destroy a Chrysler transmission and cause other issues and parts to wear. When I told him this I was told “I don't care what the owner’s manual states I have been doing this for 22 years”. And he hung up. I called back and told receptionist I wanted Scott to call me back. When I explained what had happened and told him what done Scott again told me it was broken inside and was banging around, the mechanic there previously had told us that was actually the transmission pump not getting fluid because once the filter was change no noise at all occurred starting the car and driving it home. Scott became verbally abusive when I told him he is causing damage to people with Chrysler’s transmissions by his practice. He called me an idiot and that I didn't know what I was talking about. At this point yes my NY and Chicago background came out and I dropped the F bomb a few times at Scott and told him he was not informed and a great disservice to his customers. And a He was killing peoples transmissions for more money. He called a few expletives as well and then again called me an idiot. Obviously after this he hung up be I called him out. I will be reporting this to the state of Florida and BBB if they are a member.



But my opinion would be to STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOP! Also I will be calling the business that recommended them to let them know they may want to re-think about recommending this shop anymore!
