Arthritis
There are over 100 different types of arthritis. Arthritis can occur for many reasons, including aging, “wear and tear,” autoimmune disease, trauma, and inflammatory disease. Arthritis usually affects the bones and the joints; however, it can affect other parts of the body, such as muscles, ligaments, tendons, and some internal organs. Two of the more common types of arthritis, Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis are discussed below.
Sinusitis
Sinusitis causes pressure and pain in the head and face. It can also cause nasal congestion, coughing, fever, and a sore throat. Symptoms may be relieved with over-the-counter medications. Antibiotics can treat specific types of infection. Treatment for contributing medical conditions or surgery may help recurrent or chronic sinusitis.
Medical Weight Loss
As COPD worsens, you may experience episodes more frequently and develop serious complications. Your skin may have a bluish discoloration. You may have a pneumothorax, a condition where the lung collapses and air is on the outside of the lung. You may experience a significant weight loss. COPD can affect your heart. Severe high blood pressure and malignant high blood pressure can cause headaches, vision problems, lightheadedness, nausea, and vomiting. Malignant high blood pressure, a hypertensive crisis, is high blood pressure that rises rapidly. The diastolic blood pressure often exceeds 140 mmHg. You should go to a hospital emergency department if your diastolic pressure is greater than 100 mm Hg. You should call an ambulance if you experience the symptoms of a stroke or heart attack, which may include severe headache, dizziness, fainting, blurred vision, loss of vision, chest pain, shortness of breath at rest, and weakness.
Colonoscopy
Your doctor may order blood tests, stool tests, and imaging tests to help confirm the diagnosis and rule out other conditions with similar symptoms. Imaging tests may include a colonoscopy and barium enema. Ulcerative colitis can be confirmed with a tissue sample biopsy.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Diarrhea is associated with certain medical conditions. Malabsorption syndromes such as lactose intolerance, gluten malabsorption (celiac disease), and other food intolerances can cause diarrhea. Diarrhea is symptom of inflammatory bowel diseases, such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a very common gastrointestinal disorder that causes alternating periods of diarrhea and constipation. Immune deficiency, such as with HIV or AIDS infection, can also result in diarrhea.

The present flu vaccinations are not related to the vaccines used in 1976 for the Swine Flu. The Swine Flu vaccine was discontinued after it was associated with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), a type of paralysis. Recent flu vaccines do not carry a risk of GBS in children and only have a slight risk of GBS for adults.

You should also be tested for Type 2 Diabetes in the future. Women who develop Gestational Diabetes during pregnancy are at a higher risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes as they age.

Echocardiogram – an ultrasound of the heart used to diagnose a variety of heart conditions such as leaky heart valves, weak heart, enlarged heart, etc. Learn more about Echocardiogram.
MRI
X-rays are used to see the condition of your bones and joints, and to identify areas of arthritis or bone spurs. The tissues that surround the joint do not show up on an X-ray. In this case, a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan may be requested to get a better view of the soft tissue structures, such as ligaments, tendons, and cartilage.
Radiology
Prior to taking X-rays, barium, a chalky substance, and air are used to fill and expand the colon. The barium reveals the bowel’s shape and position on the X-ray images. A barium enema is a procedure that is performed at a doctor’s office or a hospital’s radiology department.
X-Rays
Computed Tomography
Imaging tests help your doctor determine if bleeding or a clot caused your stroke. Imaging tests can identify the location and magnitude of the stroke. Computed Tomography (CT) scans and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans are used to provide a picture of the brain. These imaging scans evaluate brain structures, but do not directly assess brain functioning.
Chemotherapy
Certain medications can cause diarrhea, especially some antibiotics. Laxatives used to treat constipation can sometimes result in diarrhea. Diarrhea is a common side effect of chemotherapy used to treat cancer.
Radiation Therapy
Less common causes of diarrhea include Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome, neuropathy, and carcinoid syndrome. Diarrhea can be a symptom of colon cancer. It may also occur after gastrectomy, the surgical removal of part or all of the stomach. Further, diarrhea can be a side effect of high dose radiation therapy for cancer.

Minimally Invasive Surgery
Generally, traditional open joint surgeries take several months to heal, depending on the joint. Minimally invasive surgery and arthroscopic surgery use smaller incisions and typically heal in a shorter amount of time, from several weeks to a few months. Your doctor may restrict your activity for a short time following your surgery. In most cases, rehabilitation is recommended to mobilize and strengthen the joint.
Joint Replacement
In advanced arthritis, the damaged joint can be replaced with an artificial one. Artificial joints are made of metal, plastic, ceramics, or a combination of the materials. The material selected depends on the reason for the surgery, as well as which joint is being replaced. Joint replacement can provide significant pain relief and improved mobility.
Arthritis Surgery
Recovery from arthritis surgery is very individualized. Your recovery time will depend on the extent of your condition, the joint that was involved, and the type of surgery that you had. Your doctor will let you know what you may expect.

Doppler – this test is used to identify blocked arteries in the neck and legs. Early detection helps to prevent Stroke - CVA and gangrene of the leg and foot.

Such conditions include asthma, lung problems, nasal polyps, eczema, and frequent ear, respiratory tract, or nasal sinus infections.

In severe cases, inflammation and thickening causes the colon wall to expand to beyond its normal size. This condition is called toxic megacolon and requires emergency medical treatment. Other complications associated with ulcerative colitis include joint pain, eye lesions, mouth ulcers, skin rashes, and liver disease.

Occupational Therapy
Immediately following your injury, you should elevate your joint and apply cold packs to prevent swelling. Your doctor will formulate a treatment plan based on the severity and degree of your injury. Mild sprains and strains may benefit from physical or occupational therapy following injury. More significant sprains and strains may require surgery or immobilization with a brace or splint for healing.
Aquatic Therapy
Occupational or physical therapists can help you strengthen the muscles surrounding your joint. The resulting added joint stability can help relieve pain. Aquatic therapy in a heated pool can be especially soothing. In addition, the buoyancy of the water takes stress off the joints while exercising, and the resistance of the water can help strengthening efforts. Your therapists may also apply heat to treat stiffness, and ice to decrease pain. They may recommend splints, walkers, or canes to help relieve stress on your joints. The therapists will instruct you on how to do your daily activities, such as housework and meal preparation, in a manner that puts less stress on your joints.
