This is a lovely home and even...

This is a lovely home and event facility that deserves to be enjoyed by everyone. My husband and I first went for an anniversary getaway and really had a chance to relax. Our church ladies have now been there a couple of times for Sharon's wonderful teas that she puts on for us and special event luncheons that she hosted for us in the "carriage house". There are so many places to just sit and relax that you can't possibly do all of them in one visit. There's the lovely view across the grounds and vistas beyond that you can enjoy from the 2nd floor library over the carriage house, the porches, the gazebo, the firepit, the swings, the house tower... Each room in the B&B has unique seating areas with oodles of worldly collections that Sharon and her husband gathered over the years. If you enjoy reading, you won't ever want to leave the enormous library. Don't be afraid to ask Sharon for a tour as she can relate their world travels and history of various pieces. There is a outdoor spa room with hot tub, but ask first as the hot tub is not in service year-round. We stay at B&Bs a couple of times a year all over the country and have found this to be a unique experience.

I just booked our next visit and am counting the hours. One thing we appreciated was the space the innkeeper gives her guests to just roam about on their own. Go with an open mind, pack some friendly smiles, and prepare to relax. Sharon works very hard to keep up with the Inn on her own since her husband suddenly passed away as they were looking forward to their retirement years running the Inn together. I can't imagine doing that. It's a good value too.

We highly recommend a restaurant "The Mustard Seed" in nearby South Dayton NY. Sharon recommended that to us on our first visit to the B&B and we have made the 45 minute drive from our home many times to go back to that restaurant with friends and family. Dinner reservations are recommended. Unique food - lots of it - and a warm atmosphere with friendly staff. There are closer family restaurants in Cherry Creek also.

My wife and I along with two o...

My wife and I along with two other couples spent 3 nights at the Cherry Creek Inn. Having stayed at other B&B's, we thought we knew what to expect but what we found was an exceptional place to stay and have a great time.

The Innkeeper, Sharon, was very helpful and made sure we all felt welcome and knew where everything was in the main house, the carriage house, the exercise room and the hot tub area. To say we were a bit overwhelmed would be an understatement. All of these amenities were available to us as well as use of the full kitchen in the carriage house.

The carriage house quickly became a focal point for our group. With a full kitchen and mini "Banquet Facility" downstairs and a beautiful and spacious Game Area, Library and Sitting Room upstairs, we could lounge, read, listen to music, surf the Internet (oh yeah, wireless Internet!) and play board and card games to our heart's content. Our goal was a few days of relaxation and this gave us a great place to do just that while we were there.

In the main house, we enjoyed the parlor with a fireplace (prepped and ready to go every evening by Sharon) full of comfy couches, love seats and enough memorabilia to look at for hours.

My wife and I stayed in the Albert Room with our friends in the remaining Victoria and Elizabeth Rooms. We didn't have anyone in the loft but snuck a quick look. 2 nice rooms and a small shared sitting area with a staircase to the entryway. We all found our rooms quite comfortable and warm despite the mini blizzard we had the second night. Given that the house dated to 1860, I was amazed how draft free our room was.

We also went out and hit the Chautauqua Wine Trail with our last stop being Woodbury Vineyards. What a treat as we happened to be there when both vintners were there! They shared some of their latest Chardonnay right out of the barrel and Riesling both before and after processing. The nominal $3.00 tasting fee was nothing compared to the amount of fun and education we received. Best of all, only 10 minutes from the Inn!

We also took a quick trip to Jamestown and visited the Southerntier Brewery. We got there too late to take the 1:00 tour so we "drowned" our sorrow with a couple of good glasses of beer. (They have wine as well!)

We all plan to return and make sure that we enjoy the Inn many times in the future.

I read the other review posted. All three of our couples (who all have kids) agreed that the Inn would be great place for families but not for very, very young children. A 150 year old home full of memorabilia, antiques and interesting spaces just doesn't suit toddlers. We're positive school aged children would be fine and have a great time down in the basement playing games in the pub and hanging out in the tower. Family friendly for sure, just not for little kids.

Be sure to check this place out and prepare to be amazed at all that is there and in the area.

We enter the front door and go...

We enter the front door and go up a steep flight of stairs lacking hand rails. At the top we reach the railing in question, which has been enclosed with rough pieces of particle board (the entire railing at the top of the stairs was no more than 2 ½ to 3 feet high and the rails no thicker than an inch). On the other side of this setup is a small TV table – on which there is a pile of 10 to 20 1-inch cable staples. Under this is a pile of cables, some not even connected to anything. Next to this is a 3 foot high window at ground level with no protective bars (bedroom windows were of the same nature). On the other end of the room is a small bedside table with a mini-fridge on top of it. On this are 2 tea cups, an electric tea pot and a spoon. These items and the fridge are dirty from use and lack of cleaning. All flat surfaces are dusty and it didn’t seem any one had vacuumed. The bathroom has a sign near the mirror that says the hot water is extremely hot and in fact was very much so. In the medicine cabinet we found opened lotions, shampoos and conditioners and a pile of used soaps. The door has old-fashioned lock hardware but because it’s broken, a screw from the jam side equipment is removed to lock and unlock the door. The heat on the first night didn’t work so the temperature was 58 degrees. Our host, made a point of telling me her insurance company was unhappy with children being in the loft. I simply nod my head. She also tells me the people next door are visiting their dying daughter so if we could keep it down. I told her we’d do our best, considering we’d be out most of the day and the kids go to bed quite early, it shouldn’t be an issue. She attempted to leave without further comment. My wife asked if there was anything else we needed to know, to which she replied “like what?” “I guess nothing” was all we could respond and off she went. Realizing we didn’t get a key, I went to get one before we went out. Her response was “for what?” I say “to lock the door.” She tells me that it was her only key and I needed to leave it on the table in the front foyer. She asks me what and when we would like breakfast and I tell her that pancakes for Saturday and I’d check with my wife about Sunday, but both days we would like to eat at 8:30. Pancakes are what we got on Saturday with little nuggets of sausage and canned fruit in a bowl. She makes mention of the noise from the children. I tell her we are doing our best but they are, in fact children. I tell her pancakes would be fine for Sunday and she tells me since the house is full, breakfast would be ala carte. After our outings we came home to rest and I took my youngest down to get a restaurant recommendation. We waited in the front foyer while she was upstairs giving another guest similar information. She walked by us once to go to her office and went back to finish up with the other guest. On her return trip she went a different direction, went in her office/kitchen area, came and closed the door from the foyer to the kitchen area, and without a word to us, disappeared into the back of the house! On Sunday morning, I’m still in bed since my wife offered to tend to the kids so I can sleep a bit. I hear the youngest crying and know she’s waiting for a bottle. It’s about 6:45am and I can hear my wife and the innkeeper talking. My wife comes in and tells me that the Innkeeper used a key (apparently had more than one) to come into our suite to complain that the baby was being too loud and that quiet hours were 11-7! This is a point she should have made on the first day-but seriously-breaking in to complain about crying?! So I start to load the car. She comes out with a receipt and tells me she only charged me one night since “no one was happy with our stay.” I tell her “It’s not like you tried” to which she scurried off.

downrtdisappointed

This superficially luxurious Inn can no more declare sanctuary for a weary traveler than can a local café which is where details of a stay will almost certainly be aired. The real mystery is what the ostensibly kind Inn keeper will swiftly come up with to make her stories more interesting.

I was discontented with a ‘private bath’ en suite as the only privacy given was a by a louvered door. An escape to the ‘Spa Room’ was downright shocking as the water in the tub was ghastly. No oasis there, the water was not fit for that dog that once lived in the ‘dog house!’ The cob-webs that hang from the ceiling can either tell of little use or an apparent lack of cleanliness.

This guest will put it well -

'Twas like staying in a Victorian sea captain's house -- full of treasures collected on distant voyages with a true pirate at the helm.'

Overall
Cherry Creek Bed and Breakfast

Although this inn boasts an old fashion charm and poetic appeal, it's inn keeper promises to offer you so much more. After my hassle free check in and tour of the facilities I was very impressed with the amenities offered at this small town venue and was excited for my evening's stay. However, unknown and untold to me there is a curfew similar to what my mother laid upon me over 20 years ago. Once dark befalls this establishment, the doors are locked and you will not be permitted to enter - even if you have paid upfront for your stay! Did I mention the roaming cat that oftens gets misplaced in the home only to leave the scent of urine behind? If you are still considering a stay at this facility let me pre-warn you of the paint chips (lead based or not) and dead insects that await you in every doorway and corner. Finally, your stay can be immortalized with the help of a gossip mongore that runs the place. Small town charm or not, the every detail of your stay will be broadcast to the surrounding community and if that is not interesting enough - she will make things up to spice up the story a bit. So be forewarned or fortold, if you are looking for disturbing stay in an otherwise pleasant community along the snowmobile trails that made this town legendary, stay at the Inn. If you would prefer some privacy, professionalism and a jolly good time - seek shelter elsewhere.
