West Virginia Public Broadcasting, created in 1967 by the West Virginia Legislature, operates for all West Virginians with a combination of national and local programming and educational and outreach services that enlighten, challenge, entertain and inspire diverse audiences through non-commercial telecommunications. The West Virginia Public Broadcasting Foundation is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes and receives, holds, disperses and invests monies or property given or donated to the Authority. Both Friends of West Virginia Public Radio and Television Friends of West Virginia Public Broadcasting receive donated funds from individuals for annual membership in their organization. West Virginia Public Broadcasting is the largest cultural and educational service in the state, serving half a million viewers, listeners and web site-users daily. As many as 500,000 people tune in each week to West Virginia Public Broadcasting radio and television programming and more than 2,500 visitors browse the web site each month. Instructional television programs in math, science, literacy and West Virginia history are available to more than 290,000 students in close to 800 schools and the broadcast area.
