Sagebrook Health Center

I recently resided at Sagebrook for 60 days due to a broken leg. I'm an over 50 disabled retired Veteran and prior to that I've worked in the in the senior health care/physical therapy industry. I'm now home and on out-patient p/t. I recommend this facility to anyone considering long term care and/or rehabilitation.

To the wonderful people at Sagebrook, thank you. Our father became a resident at Sagebrook in 2014 and quickly felt at home there- as so many people gave him excellent care. From the management who would always answer our questions and listen to our concerns to the great caregivers who quickly became my dad's "second family". We know with the illness our father had, he was not the easiest patient to take care of- but no one ever gave up on him. He was happy there. We can not thank everyone involved in his care enough. God truly blessed us when we found Sagebrook.

My father visited Sagebrook for a respite time for my mother. It was supposed to be for 5 days. After being there for 1, he insisted on coming home! When he was admitted they took him to the shower room to weigh him. (Dad is wheelchair bound due to advanced cancer.) Dad's locking wheelchair was sliding in the extremely slippery room as he was moved to an also sliding weight chair. The staff joked that "this room has claimed several hips." WHAT?!?! Dad's medication was brought to him in a cup that resembled sludge. They crushed all of his pills up together despite the fact that the prescription bottles say in large print "DO NOT CRUSH." Jeff - the Nursing Asst Supervisor (I think that's his title) was amazing! His staff, however, not even close. Dad asked one nurse/nurse's aide to close his door at bedtime and she responded with attitude (and I quote) "I didn't open it." I could go on and on.... I honestly hope no one EVER faces this kind of treatment as they age! Well.... maybe the people who have been giving it should have a week of it and then be shown how they should have done it - no one (not even current employees) deserve the disrespectful treatment some of the staff gave.

Speaking from experience, THIS PLACE BLOWS!!! The staff is friendly enough but that is the extent of the service. They tell you what you want to hear, but turn your back and nothing changes. They say they change the residents who can't help themselves every two hours, but it is more like after they wake up, after lunch, and before bed, HONESTLY!! The staff turn around is outrageous and it is because some people have morals, and they don't stick around to see the injustices. For those that hange around, they ignore the patients, eat the snacks for the patients, use the patients televisions for their personal use, line them up in the hallway like cattle going to slaughter instead of taking them to the activities rooms. I could go into a lot more details, but believe me, CAMERAS DON'T LIE and I will share those details in a next post. This nursing home needs major investigation and I am going to call 311 and have them investigated. This is one of the worst nursing homes out there. STAY AWAY!!!

My father is recovering from surgery and has other health issues that have come to light recently. Since my mother had visited a church friend at Sagebrook, when it was time for him to be released from the hospital and into respite care she allowed him to be taken to Sagebrook. My father is the tough, rugged type that made John Wayne seem a bit… well wimpy. Even though he’s 82 he carries himself with all the pride and dignity a long life of hard work and honor has rewarded him.

Tonight in Cedar Park my mother is having take care of him in Sagebrook because the staff is so inept. He’s been miserable the entire time he’s been there. He tells me he spends hours by himself with none of the workers looking in on him, and can not eat the food.

Father spent two weeks in the hospital, and didn’t have Intestinal problems. As soon as he was settled into Sagebrook he began having problems controlling his bowels. He complained of severe cramping, stomach pain and continued to have problems getting to the lavatory in time. This resulted in him defecating himself, his bed, just about everything on numerous occasions. Today he called for the nurse and no one came and he attempted to get to the toilet on his own. In the process he cut his arm and began to bleed profusely, Dad’s a hemophilic. Mother said when she found him on the toilet bleeding she called for help and the nurse proceeded to bandage the wound without the benefit of any antiseptic.

The physical therapist was concerned for Dad and began to investigate his situation and started asking questions. She discovered, without consent from my mother or father he was placed on Senokot laxative the day he arrived because it’s their standard practice. They continued to administer it even though he was suffering from severe cramps and had uncontrollable diarrhea. WHAT?

Instead of laundering the clothes he soiled, they threw them away… all of them. The lack of care and disrespect shown my father is criminal. I live 90 miles away or I would probably would have been on the 6:00 news... We’re demanding he be released in the morning!
