This is why Dr. Onanuga strongly recommends oral cancer screenings as a crucial part of regular check-ups for adults. Fluoride Treatment
Because of its remarkable ability to remineralize teeth and strengthen enamel, we recommend fluoride treatment here at Catonsville Dental Center as an excellent tool in helping to reduce the risk of tooth decay. Regular care with fluoride can also help in cases of insufficient saliva, which is necessary to stop food particles from making direct contact with teeth. We recommend that patients drink fluoridated water and use toothpaste that contains fluoride at least twice a day as well. While fluoride is typically recommended for children with growing smiles, it can also significantly benefit adults who are prone to tooth decay, those who are physically handicapped, and those with dry mouth and other systemic illnesses.
Dental Sealants
Keeping teeth clean can sometimes be a challenge for kids with growing smiles. Thankfully, dental sealants from either of our locations serve as a much-needed shield against dangerous bacteria and plaque. Dental sealants fill in the tricky grooves and pits on back teeth and minimize the chances of cavity formation. While Dr. Onanuga typically recommends sealants for children, there may be times when adults benefit from them as well.

Resin Composite
Fillings are used to treat a tooth that’s been negatively affected by decay, a crack, or a fracture. The procedure involves removing the affected parts of the tooth replacing them with a composite resin filling that restores structure and improves strength. Here at Catonsville Dental Center, Dr. Onanuga is happy to exclusively offer a tooth-colored composite resin material that’s mercury-free and much more aesthetically pleasing compared to silver-colored fillings. Our tooth-colored fillings also allow patients to preserve the maximum amount of natural enamel, and are much less sensitive to temperature changes.

These very thin, high-quality shells of porcelain are precisely designed to fit over existing teeth and create a gorgeous new look for your smile. The process is usually two to three appointments: an initial consultation, impressions and preparation of the treated teeth, and the placement of the finished product.

Deep Cleaning
When gum disease is left untreated it progresses beyond gingivitis, and it is then called periodontitis which is a chronic inflammatory disease. At this later stage, the tissues and bone that support the teeth are broken down and destroyed, resulting in deep gum pockets, swollen and inflamed gum that continue to bleed easily, halitosis (bad breath), loose teeth and eventual tooth loss. Upon careful diagnosis, Periodontal Scaling (Deep cleaning) is performed and antibiotics may also be prescribed. In most extreme and severe periodontitis, patients are referred to local periodontist for further management and monitoring.
