The St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services is responsible for developing and providing social services and improving social conditions. The department offers adoption and foster parenting-related services, protective services for adults and children, cash and emergency assistance and child support services. The department has employment programs that help people in finding and maintaining employment. The department has an investigations department that investigates referrals of possible welfare fraud. The St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services also provides numerous independent living services that include counseling, mobility training, personal assistance, physical rehabilitation, and individual and group social and recreational services.
