Tooth decay is the most common reason for getting a tooth filled. Other reasons are a cracked tooth or broken teeth, tooth grinding or wear due to nail biting or use to open containers. The first step in the process involves removing the decayed area, in cases of decay, protecting the tooth’s pulp (where the nerves are located) with a base or liner and then applying the selected filling. Types of fillings are amalgam, ceramics, composite resin, cast gold, glass ionomer and gold foil.
Veneers
Dr. David Fish has been taking care of all my dental needs for more than 10 years. Being a baby-boomer who grew up without the benefit of fluoride, he’s had his challengers; with his expert care and comforting manner, I have a beautiful smile (thanks to six porcelain veneers-my retirement gift to myself). Crowns
Treatment involves removing the affected pulpal area and fabricating a replacement dental crown. The procedure is usually spread across several visits. During the procedure (performed under anesthesia), an opening is drilled into the tooth’s crown and pulp chamber, diseased pulp is removed and the canal reshaped and obturated. Then the tooth is permanently sealed with a gold, porcelain, or a tooth-colored dental crown.

Root Canal Treatment
What’s great about Restorative Dental is the one-stop convenience of getting everything you need done in one place. After a dentist from another practice misdiagnosed two fillings, causing me extreme pain, I sought help from Dr. Alan Sulikowski of RDGC. He immediately referred me to a colleague in the practice, Dr. Exarchos, for two emergency root canals. I was totally amazed. The work took less than an hour and a half and there was no pain at all. I didn’t even need an Advil. After the root canals, Dr. Sulikowski took over. He talked to me about every possible step and option moving forward with the permanent crowns – everything from tooth placement to coloration. He gave me a cohesive review of what was about to happen, not just of the dental work but of the cosmetics results as well. He talked about the artistic side of crown work, and what that meant in relation to my smile. Most importantly, he listened to my concerns and questions and addressed every one of them until I was satisfied.

Deep Cleaning
Also known as a deep cleaning, Scaling and Root Planing (SRP) is necessary for the removal of all causative factors (hard calculus buildup and plaque bacteria) within deep pockets. SRP helps to control and stop the progression of active gum disease, which if left untreated may lead to irreversible damage of the gums and supporting periodontal ligaments of the teeth. Untreated active gum disease may lead to severe damage that can lead to tooth loss. The use of localized anesthesia is provided for patient comfort during a deep cleaning. Sometimes, multiple visits are necessary to complete this treatment. After completion, patients return for regular 3-month periodontal maintenance cleanings to monitor gums as they return to stabilization and prevent further harmful gum disease.

Dentures
Manage the difficult transitions and risky procedures such as removable complete dentures or fix cases that require change in the bite.

Dental Implants
Dental implants provide a more natural looking replacement for missing teeth. Conventional implant placement involved the peeling back of the gums from the bone, the placement of the implant and suturing. The minimally invasive dental implant procedure however, involves the removal of a tiny circle of gum, using a cookie-cutter type instrument and then the placement of the implant.

Tooth Extractions
Dental implants require sufficient bone volume in order to secure success. Infections, trauma, periodontal disease and tooth extraction can reduce bone volume and necessitate a bone graft. Bone is oftentimes specially secured from bone banks or synthetic materials are used to stimulate bone formation.
Ridge Augmentation
Periodontal plastic surgery seeks to address several possible issues to enhance the individual’s smile. Periodontal Plastic Surgery Patients with a gummy smile or uneven gum line can elect to have a crown lengthening procedure that involves the removal of excess gum tissue to expose more of the crown of the tooth. Long teeth or exposed roots can be caused by periodontal disease. Soft tissue grafts and other procedures serve to cover the roots and protect them from tooth decay as well as prevent further receding of the gum. Indentations in the gums and jawbone are another issue addressed by surgery. This occurs when the jawbone recedes and the tooth is not being held in place. Ridge augmentation restores the natural contour of the jaw and gum line fixing this issue.

Invisalign Orthodontics
Invisalign can give you the beautiful smile and healthy straight teeth you’ve always wanted. Teeth Whitening
This procedure involves placing a protective barrier on the gums. A whitening agent is placed on the teeth. This substance is applied three additional times during the visit. This procedure takes 60 to 90 minutes to complete with noticeable results!

Dr. Ryota Kikuchi graduated from Nihon University School of Dentistry in 1998 and worked as a general dentist in Tokyo, Japan for 8 years. He received a postgraduate certificate degree in Advanced Education in General Dentistry from Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (BUGSDM) in 2007. He then taught the program for 3 years before joining the Advance Standing Program at BUGSDM and earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) with high honors in 2012.
