My husband and I own a very busy restaurant in Chester County and our schedules are hectic to say the least. I first met Chinese Professor Jia Nadia Guo (Nadia, DOM, a professor of medicine in China) on October 7th, 2005. I walked into her office or should I say “ran,” when I had just left the hospital after a very disappointing egg retrieval procedure. I had heard through the grapevine that there was a woman Chinese doctor in Bryn Mawr who could lower FSH levels through the practice of acupuncture I had been seeing another acupuncturist however she did not specialize in gynecology. I did not even know her name when I went to her office, Medical Acupuncture Clinic in Bryn Mawr on that morning – but I certainly do now. As do the many others I have recommended to her cares. When I busted through her office door I was in a quiet panic. I said to her, “I have no eggs, after a month’s worth of fertility treatment. She responded, “No problem, get on the table, I’ll get you your eggs!” She felt that I was not balanced enough to produce healthy eggs. Following her treatment plan, I was treated by acupuncture in addition to the herbs she prescribed.

The next day, I began seeing doctors. The first doctor recommended I take 3 Ibuprofen 4 times a day. The second doctor gave me prescriptions for Tramadol, 50 mg. 1-2 tablets every 6 hours as needed for pain and Propoxyphene. The third doctor prescribed Prednisone, 4 pills for 4 days then decreasing for a total of 10 days and Neuron tin, 100 mg. beginning with 1 capsule at bedtime for 2 nights and increasing to 3 pills daily. When I finished the Prednisone, I was instructed to take 2 Aleve daily, Tramadol for pain and Neurontin at night. I was given another prescription – for Valium to be taken prior to the MRI. I had taken so much medication, I was afraid to take more. Although I tried to lie still, the MRI technician was annoyed because she said I was moving.

I spent five weeks visiting doctors who gave me prescriptions for pain pills and tests. As prescribed, I also tried physical therapy four times without any permanent relief. The MRI indicated I have arthritis and degenerative discs pressing on nerves in my neck. The pain radiated to the shoulder and arm.
