Cervical Cancer
HPV (human papilloma virus) is a common virus that is easily spread by skin-to-skin contact during sexual activity with an infected person and is the main cause of cervical cancer in women. There are approximately 11,000 new cases of cervical cancer in the US each year. The HPV vaccine, Gardasil (the brand used at CAPC), protects girls against four types of HPV including the two types that cause most cervical cancers and the two types that cause most genital warts.
Urinary Tract Infection
Any symptoms suspicious for urinary tract infection including painful urination, urinary frequency, and urgency should be evaluated in the office. A urine sample will be collected during the visit to check for infection. If your child needs to urinate prior to being called back to see the doctor, please notify a member of our staff.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
At this age, your child will seem to be continually on the go – running, kicking, climbing, jumping. This yearlong energy spurt certainly will keep you on the go. But take heart – his activity level will strengthen his body and develop his coordination. All children are “hyper” at times but true ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) is a condition of the brain that makes it hard for children to control their behavior. These kids have frequent, severe problems that interfere with their ability to live normal lives. ADHD usually is not diagnosed at this age.
