Title : Play it safe: contact the department of consumer affairs

All interested parties should contact the Department of Consumer affairs regarding the company.

I hired Action Construction to build an addition to my house. The contractor did not complete the addition. Permits were not filed for both the electrical work and the plumbing installed by Action Construction. The company is not licensed as a plumber or as an electrician. The company could not obtain legally those permits but promised they would be filed. After the contractor was paid he refused to file the permits and abandoned the job. The plumbing was replaced and the addition also had to be rewired. Repair of the walls was just another expense. The Department of Buildings requires controlled inspection, none of which were completed by Action Construction. The owner Greg Toledo managed the project. He made the decisions not to follow the DOB approved plans and not to follow the advice of the architect. He made many changes which many had to be corrected later. For example, insulation was not installed to the minimum code requirement. A wood beam was not installed correctly and started to drop, the support post was cut too short. The tiled kitchen floor started to crack and detached from the flooring. The roof leaked and the first floor flooded. One of the wood floors installed was replaced because the contractor installed the flooring incorrectly. The repairs took years to discover and to correct.

Furthermore, Action Construction did not pay the numerous sanitation tickets for debris removal. HE did not file the permit for the plumbing and was issued a DOB violation for working without a permit. The default fee is $8000 and is the responsibility of the building owner. The fee was waived because the contract and the plans had permits to be filed for both the electrical work and the plumbing work.

This company will not receive a recommendation from me. Contact the Department of Consumer Affairs about the companies complaint history and the fines paid by the company.
