Dr.Edward Kozinn is a 1983 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He then completed a General Practice Residency program based at the University of Pennsylvania and affiliated hospitals. After working as an associate in a number of practices in New York and Connecticut, he established his office on Huntington Turnpike in Bridgeport in 1986. This is the 3rd location on this street as the practice has continued to expand.

Dental Sealants
Sealants are applied to the grooves of back teeth. They are an effective way to prevent dental decay. Sealants are placed without any discomfort on the permanent teeth of children and young adults who may be prone to decay.

Fillings
Modern adhesive dentistry offers many restorative materials other than silver amalgam. Tooth colored materials now offer strong, esthetic, wear resistant restorations. These materials are bonded to existing tooth structures which, in essence "glues the walls of the tooth together," strengthening the tooth. Our office has phased out the use of silver amalgam fillings as the technology for white fillings has improved.
Veneers
Smiles can be altered by the use of cosmetic bonding or porcelain veneers. We can repair chips, close spaces, remove discolorations, change colors and reshape teeth. These procedures are done with minimal enamel removal. Porcelain veneers are some of the most beautiful and durable restorations that we have to offer. Porcelain fused to gold crowns are indicated for teeth that have lost more tooth structure than can be restored by fillings alone. They also provide support to teeth that were broken down by root canal treatment or decay.

A fixed bridge replaces one or more missing natural teeth. It cannot be removed by the patient. It is cemented into place and is firmly attached to the prepared natural teeth that are next to it. The fixed bridge can be made of porcelain fused to precious metal or all porcelain without any metal.

Root Canal Treatment
This is the field of dentistry that focuses on the nerve of the tooth.Sometimes damage to the nerve is reversible, but when it is not, root canal therapy may be the best treatment. This treatment is required when the pulp, which is a network of tissue fibers containing veins and nerves, becomes infected or inflamed. Bacteria, which is the most common cause of infection and inflammation, enters the pulp of the tooth through decay or a crack. However, other factors may contribute, such as repeated dental procedures, or a blow or traumatic injury to the face.

Deep Cleaning
While assessing a patient's overall health, he also looks for problems such as caries (cavities) and periodontal (gum) disease. The dental hygienists perform thorough head and neck examinations to screen for oral cancer. Our goal is to enhance the oral health of each patient as is deemed necessary including simple cleanings, fluoride treatments, periodontal scaling and root planning, x-rays, sealants and oral hygiene instruction.

Dentures
Before the availability of dental implants, we were limited in how we were able to replace missing teeth. Our options included fixed bridges, which frequently require reduction of sound teeth to replace a missing tooth; or removable appliances. Implants allow us to replace individual teeth, without altering other adjacent natural teeth. People who are wearing full or partial dentures can now replace these with non-removable appliances, or lock a denture into place to provide greatly enhanced chewing abilty and comfort.

Dental Implants
When implants or fixed bridges are not possible, removable full or partial dentures are an alternative. We offer both metal framed denture bases, traditional plastic and flexible dentures.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Tooth Extractions
It may be determined that you need a tooth extraction for any number of reasons. Some teeth are extracted because they are severely decayed. Others may have advanced periodontal disease or are broken in a way that does not allow for their restoration. Finally, some teeth may need removal because they are poorly positioned in the mouth (such as impacted teeth) or in preparation for orthodontic treatment.

Teeth Whitening
Tooth whitening has become more popular than ever with the new technology available through the ZOOM II Systems. We have the ability to whiten teeth both in office or at home. In-office whitening is done by applying the ZOOM II System on the teeth which is accelerated by a high-intensity light. Teeth can often be whitened in a one hour session.
