The Missouri Department of Transportation is responsible for providing a safe and efficient transportation system to the citizens of Missouri. The department works with transportation partners and local, state and federal agencies to achieve its objectives. Founded in 1979, the Missouri Department of Transportation operates various divisions dedicated to transit, waterways, aviation and railroad improvement. It is also responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of transportation systems. The department s general services division provides facilities procurement, distribution, shipping, equipment repair, and facilities and fleet management services. Additionally, it offers a variety of engineering and community services. The Missouri Department of Transportation maintains its headquarters in Jefferson City, Mo.
