Beauty Salon Nightmare!



I recently visited the Salon in JC Penney at the Gallatin Mall in Bozeman. "Brittany" assured me, that she was experienced and "excellent". I requested mostly "shaping". I have hair that is naturally curly and wonderfully easy to work with. I have a body perm and can achieve great results after just ten minutes with a curling iron - or I could, before the attack of JC Penney and Brittany!



My hair was washed and blown dry and the result attacked with thinning shears rather than traditional scissors. You know the kind: "snaggle-toothed" and missing every other tooth, they are generally used - in my experience - sparingly, at the end of a cut, to thin areas that are still bulky. Even when she was finished, and I pointed out areas that were now too long, she "shortened" them with those thinning shears rather than scissors! The result is a nightmare of ragged ends that are impossible to even get on a roller! It will not only take months for this to grow out enough for a decent stylist to work with (unless she leaves me with very short hair), but Brittany laid waste to a recent $90 perm! I suppose I should have walked out, but, an hour from home, and with three appointments that afternoon, I was stuck.



A phone call to Penney three days later revealed that there IS no salon manager. The store manager, however, informed me that ALL haircuts are performed this way if the customer requests shaping instead of shortening. (Not in my experience - not in the three states in which I regularly have my hair cut and styled!). I was offered a return visit to another Penney's stylist or a refund of the price of the devastation. The "tip" (25%) however is gone, considered an expression of my "pleasure" at the job done by the stylist! Perhaps I should call Brittany and suggest she take that "tip" to the manager and return it with my refund? If she returned it and added another $10,THAT would begin to express my degree of "pleasure"!
