Criminal Defense
Prior to that, DA Hayden spent five years as a criminal defense attorney. He served as a bar advocate for the Committee for Public Counsel Services representing indigent clients in Boston Municipal Court and Boston Juvenile Court.
Sex Crimes
Some crimes are extremely serious and some offenders pose a danger to the community, but many young people enter the system with minimal records for minor offenses – better suited to the justice of an angry parent than the Juvenile Court. The JAR Program is for youth in between, whose actions are more serious but don’t include firearms offenses, sexual assaults, or serious bodily injury to a victim.

White Collar Crimes
The Special Prosecutions Unit investigates and prosecutes cases of white collar crime, financial fraud, computer-related crimes, public corruption, and related offenses. With a team of highly-specialized lawyers and investigators, they have successfully prosecuted cases ranging from identity theft to excessive force by law enforcement officers to the largest Ponzi scheme in Boston’s history.

Misdemeanors
As part of its overall mission of serving victims and protecting citizens of the county, the District Attorney’s office maintains a presence in nine district and municipal courts throughout Suffolk County. Operated by the Trial Court of the Commonwealth, these courts have jurisdiction over misdemeanors and some felonies, and the vast majority of criminal cases handled by our office are resolved here. Each courthouse has a team of assistant district attorneys, victim witness advocates, investigators, and administrative staff who are dedicated to serving victims and communities while holding criminal offenders accountable.
Drug Crimes
RASHID PARHAM, 24, of Hyde Park was arraigned on Monday on charges of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license (second offense), possession of ammunition without an FID card, carrying a firearm without a license (third offense), firearm violation with three prior violent crime or drug offenses (armed career criminal), and fail to submit to a public employee. Judge Jonathan Tynes ordered Parham held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on May 17 in the Dorchester Division of BMC.
Assault
BOSTON, May 5, 2023 –RAYMOND WALLACE, 46, of Salem pleaded guilty today in Suffolk Superior Court to numerous assault and battery, firearms and escape charges related to a 2013 escape attempt in which he shot a Middlesex deputy sheriff after being transported to Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston for treatment of an injury sustained at the Middlesex Jail in Cambridge, District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.
Murder
ANGEL T. ALVAREZ, 65, is charged with murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Judge Christopher Henry ordered Alvarez held without bail. Alvarez will return to court June 12 for a probable cause hearing.
Identity Theft
Homicide
Zabin, a graduate of Colby College and Northeastern Law School, joined the Suffolk DA’s office in 1993, working first on the appeals team and then as a prosecutor and supervisor at Dorchester District Court. He served on the general felony unit and the senior trial unit before moving to the homicide unit in 2002. He became deputy chief of the homicide unit in 2006. He has served as chief of the homicide unit since 2008.
Restraining Order
In Suffolk County, prosecutors and victim witness advocates assigned to the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Unit are experienced and specially-trained in meeting the needs of victims of domestic violence. Our advocates are available in each of the nine district and municipal courts across Suffolk County to help victims with crisis intervention, safety planning, restraining orders, and other services.
Kidnapping
AKEEM A. LAHENS, 32, was arraigned in the Dorchester division of BMC on Monday for armed robbery and three counts of kidnapping. Lahens was ordered held pending a dangerousness hearing today, where Judge Lisa A. Grant found him dangerous and ordered him held without bail until June 8 for a probable cause hearing.
Prostitution
Despite its portrayal in popular culture as harmless and even glamorous, prostitution is anything but. Survivors of human trafficking often come from backgrounds of trauma, substance use disorder, and other concerns that leave them reluctant to turn to police and prosecutors for help. The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office has a long history of supporting juvenile and adult victims of commercial sexual exploitation and ensuring that they are treated with dignity while receiving the multifaceted services necessary to rebuild their lives.
