Tuina (also called An mo) is the oldest known system of massage and physical therapy in the world. Originating in China 15,000 years ago, the oldest record of medical massage for trauma was carved on turtle shells. In the Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine (the first comprehensive treaty of Chinese medicine) from 230 B.C., Tuina was described as one of the five major therapies of the time. Tuina has remained an organized and systematically developed form of massage and physical therapy since that time. Currently in China, Tuina is taught as a separate but equal field of study in the major traditional Chinese medical schools. Tuina doctors receive the same demanding training as acupuncturists and herbalists, and enjoy the same level of professional respect.

Reflexology Massage
Reflexology is a form of therapeutic massage in Tuina that is applied to the feet or head. According to Chinese medicine, the feet or head reflect health conditions of various parts of the body. Reflexology massage can promote overall wellness, and relieve stress, headaches, strains and pains. Reflexology massage is strong, but more refined than whole body massage. Patients feel light and energized afterwards.

Dr. Chen went back to China in 2004, and studied and worked with teachers at China Blind Massage Center in Beijing. He made a documentary film, the Healing Touch of the Blind (2006), about how blind people study and practice their healing art in China. Dr. Chen hypothesizes that blind massage therapists have heighten tactile sense which allows them to discriminate subtle signs between healthy and pathological issues. He developed a manual therapy, and called tensiology therapy and tensiolax therapy interchangably. In February 1, 2006, he offered the tensiology therapy to patients with multible sclerosis (MS) at Chi Wellness Clinic at Waltham who resided in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He eventually applied tensiology therapy to soft tissue tensions associated with muscle spasm, organ spasm, neuromuscular spasticity and rigidity caused by injuries, inflammation, neurodegeneration or autoimmune process.
Therapeutic Exercise
The Holistic Rehabilitation Unit is located at Chi Wellness Waltham Clinic in Waltham, Massachusetts. We have developed a unique treatment procedure that combines our TCM practices (including acpuncture, Tuina manipulations, herbal medicine and Chinese therapeutic exercises) with chiropractic treatment and physical therapy. We plan to help our disabled patients get their insurance to coverour holistic rehabilitative services.
Acupressure
Tuina uses the Traditional Chinese Medical theory of channels and collaterals (meridians or pathways) and the flow of the Chi energy, as its basic therapeutic orientation. Through the application of massage and manipulation techniques, Tuina seeks to establish a more harmonious Chi energy through the system of channels and collaterals, allowing the body to naturally heal itself. Tuina methods include the use of hand and arm techniques to massage the soft tissue (muscles and tendons) of the body, stimulation of acupressure points to directly affect the flow of Chi energy through the system of channels and collaterals, and manipulation techniques to realign the musculo-skeletal and ligamentous relationships (bone setting). External herbal poultices, compresses, liniments and salves are also used to enhance the other therapeutic methods.
Acupuncture
We provide acupuncture treatment for women who seek natural pregnancy or assisted production procedures such as IUI and IVF. The frequency of acupuncture ranges from 1-3 times per week, depending on their signs and symptoms. If women have greater fertility difficulties, we highly recommend them to also take regular Chinese herbal medicine. We use three proprietary formulas (termed PreM, M and PostM), in tea form made of natural herbs, each menstrual cycle. We provide a list of English names for Chinese herbs for patients or their physicians to review.
