Animal Medical Center of Boise was first established in 1976 by Dr. Donna Peterson a long time Boise resident. Dr. Dan Gillis purchased the building and practice in 2009 at the time of Dr. Peterson’s retirement. Dr. Gillis has developed a full-service, small animal veterinary hospital providing comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care. He also provides some limited services for Equine owners.

Gastropexy: In addition to the spay and neuter, we encourage owners of large breed canines to consider this additional procedure at the time of spay or neuter. Canine gastropexy is a surgical procedure to prevent gastric dilatation volvulus (GDV), commonly known as bloat. GDV is a life-threatening condition in which the stomach flips over and expands, trapping air and gases in the stomach. Circulation to the stomach and spleen is subsequently interrupted, resulting in shock which can be fatal.

In 1999 Dr. Gillis moved to Boise, Idaho and joined Bench Animal Hospital as an associated small animal veterinarian. He also worked part-time at Animal Emergency Clinic in Garden City. He joined Animal Emergency and Referral Center of Idaho as a full time emergency clinician in 2001. He stayed with them through a merger with Idaho Veterinary Specialist and becoming West Vet. While working in emergency and critical care he had the opportunity to work with many specialists in surgery and internal medicine. In 2009 Dr. Gillis had the opportunity to leave West Vet and purchase Animal Medical Center and operate his own veterinary hospital. Dan especially enjoys the opportunity to develop close personal relationships with his clients and patients within his practice. It is his goal to establish more than just the traditional doctor/patient contact.
