General Info
Deenie's Bed & Biscuit Inc. is a full service pet boarding and grooming facility. We specialize in dog grooming and pet boarding. Deenie Sullivan is a Master Groomer who has been servicing pet owners in the Bloomington/Normal area for over 25 years. Following her graduation from the International Pet Institute, Deenie began working at a local grooming shop for Ken Busher. In 1983 Deenie opened her first grooming shop in Bloomington/Normal. As the years progressed, so did her business. In 1999 Deenie opened her first boarding facility where services such as grooming, boarding and daycare would be offered. Because it was such a huge success, Deenie saw a need for expansion. In September 2006, she found the perfect location for her current boarding facility: a 7500 square foot, state-of-the-art business with your pet's best interest in mind and heart. The building includes heated floors in the kennels, indoor and outdoor runs, large outdoor play areas covered with synthetic grass, playground equipment and an outdoor bone-shaped swimming pool (the only one of its kind in the area). The grooming area was specially designed to create a stress-free environment for your pet. Our facility is also equipped with a separate geriatric ward for elderly and special-needs pets.

If you want to drop your dogs off and don't care much about how they do, feel free to use this place. If your dogs are more like family and you want to make sure they are treated well...go somewhere else.

I was incredibly disappointed with my one and only experience with Deenie's Bed & Biscuit. We had just moved to town, so hadn't found a house/pet sitter and had to resort to a kennel to watch our 2, 90lb dogs while we went back to the East Coast for Thanksgiving. We had heard good reviews from seeminly knowledgeable sources, and the conversation we had with the staff prior to booking seemed to indicate a great fit. Boarded dogs can participate in day care (get to play with the other dogs) and we were told someone was always on the premises.

During both our phone booking and drop off conversation, we mentioned that we would be picking up the dogs early on a Sunday morning...and at no point did anyone ever mention that they were only open for pick-up from 6-7pm on Sundays. Yes, those hours were posted on their window, but as a service professional myself, I know to tell new customers about any oddities in service. So, imagine our surprise when we showed up at 10am and the doors were locked. There was a car, and we knew someone was supposed to be there, so we called...and called...and called. I was easily on the phone for 10 minutes before someone decided to answer the phone.

The person answering the phone was not trained to talk to customers and had no capability of releasing our dogs to us. Also - she mentioned that she was literally just there to feed the dogs lunch...so there wasn't going to be a person there once she left....and there hadn't been anyone there before we arrived. This was completely unacceptable given what we were told when making our reservations.

Fast forward to when we were finally able to bring our dogs home - it was a busy hour, with lots of families picking up their dogs. So the name of the game was charge them and push 'em out the door. When we pushed to see how our dogs had done (had they eaten? did they get along with the other dogs? did they have all their medications? did they poop recently?) there were no answers. The attendant didn't have any ideas about their stay, and didn't seem to have access to any report or other personnel who might have had more information.

Other things we noticed - there are a couple of birds near the door...anytime a dog barks, the birds yell "Oye!" just like a person yelling at the dogs to be quiet. There is no place on their website for reviews to be collected.

My husband picked up our yellow lab around 5 pm yesterday after a 3 night stay. It took her until 7:30 tonight to even start to become herself. She normally gets crazy excited to see people, or when someone comes to the door, but she didn't even notice my daughters and I when we got home yesterday. She wouldn't eat, wouldn't drink, wouldn't come to us when we called her, and was very lethargic. She acted like she was sedated. I don't normally write reviews but I just had to write this one. I will never take my dogs there again.

Dangerous practices - My Maltese was at Deenies being groomed and was placed in a dryer cage with a larger aggressive dog. The larger dog attacked and critically injured my dog. She had one eye forced out of its socket, several crushed bones in her face, and numerous punctures in her skull and neck. The injuries were so severe that I had to have her put to sleep.

Warning

Please beware. The staff was young and very inhospitable! They didn't seem like they even liked pets. This was the first time I had to board my dog and it was horrible. I only boarded her for 2 nights and 1 day. I picked her up and she had wet paws from pee in her cage and poop stuck to her backside!!! This is completely unacceptable and not humane at all!!!

I adopted two pitbulls from Wi...

I adopted two pitbulls from Wishbone a year and a half ago and wanted to break the myth and socialize them at Deenies. Amanda - AMAZING! Cassie too. There were a few girls there that were just very helpful and genuinely cared. There was some pretty significant turnover in the last few months and the customer service has suffered from that. The wait is longer to get your dog and I actually witnessed a girl bringing the wrong dog to a lady! Deenie herself has been all but absent when I go in. I boarded them there while in training in Chicago and when I returned to pick them up they were FILTHY and HAGGARD. I know the difference between being exhausted from tons of play and being poorly kept for 4 days. AND when I went to take their leashes off at home my female flinched and cowered away. I have never raised a hand to her so who did?? I mentioned my concerns with Cassie who said she'd look into it and I get a phone call this morning from one of the newer girls saying she's from "the Dog Shop" and Deenie has to abide by their Insurance which does not cover Pitbulls. What the H?! Happy Pitbull Awareness Month! What a joke.

NEVER AGAIN! We boarded our Ge...

NEVER AGAIN! We boarded our German Shepard puppy for a week the first week of July 2012. When we picked her up, the young girl at the register made no eye contact and the only words she said, were, "$279". Once we got our pup home we noticed she was limping and took her the vet. She had a deep gash in her paw, vet said it had to be several days old and it was swollen and infected. There had to have been blood in her kennel and no one there noticed the poor thing was limping. We called Deenie and after she "checked with the staff" denied that it could have happened there. The Vet disagrees. Then they had the nerve to hold onto our check for 6 weeks before they deposited it. They should have paid our vet bill. Never, never again. My pet's well being and safety are too important to me.

WARNING! My sister used to ...

WARNING!

My sister used to work for Deenie's Bed and Biscuit before the incident about Deenie (allegedly) poisoning her neighbors dogs with tainted meat. What I learned from my sister will forever keep MY dogs away from Deenie and her business...

NAILS & GROOMING... Groomer's were excellent in personality although my sister once witnessed Deenie's own daughter (one of the main workers at the time) hit a dog on the nose with the metal clippers when it tried to shy away from getting his nails clipped.... it wasn't any 'light tap" on the nose either.

DAY CARE: Area is open and cleaned but dogs are NOT supervised when at play. The only time supervision occurs is when a fight breaks out and the dogs are kenneled.

FOOD & WATER: Food and water is put into dog's kennels in early AM, water is checked occasionally throughout day. No monitoring of which dog (if multiple in cage) ate which food or how much, is noticed.

MEDICINE: Given when needed. Medicine was kept in bottles near dog cages (NOT safely away in another room away from curious dogs).

CLEANLINESS: This area was where the staff spent the most time, after all, it is what the visiting people noticed first. Multiple times throughout the day the dog areas was scooped of poop and once a day the floor/kennels were cleaned. Laundry was constantly done as well.

BEWARE! What stayed most in my mind was my sister's account of how one snowy morning in the midst of winter she arrived to work around 6am to clean the outside kennels to find that one dog had BEEN LEFT OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT!

It had snowed and was still snowing when the dog was found... since the dog was let inside and showed no significant signs of distress, the owner was never told...

To anyone who's considering using Deenie's Bed & Biscuit for their dog... please reconsider...

Please Beware

We boarded both of our dogs as Deenie’s for four days. When we picked them up I noticed one of them had runny discharge under his eyes, and he immediately began rubbing his face when we left. When we got the dogs outside into the grass they both began having horrible diarrhea. I figured this was due to stress and they would return to normal after being home. We then noticed that one of our dogs seemed thinner and fatigued, and the other seemed heavier. When we returned home they both continued to have diarrhea through the night, and the thinner one began vomiting. The following morning I called Deenie’s to find out if they were boarded in the same kennel, and if so were they fed together. They were, which I find interesting because I paid for two dogs. Knowing how our dogs eat it is safe to assume that the heavier one ate both of their food for their entire stay. As the diarrhea and vomiting continued I called Deenie’s back to find out if they had noticed any diarrhea so we could know how long they had been sick, the girl on the phone very rudely said that no one had noticed any. We finally called our vet and he wanted to see them right away. Their samples showed bacteria levels of clostridium off the charts. Both dogs had to receive shots, were put on four medications, and prescription dog food. This resulted in a $281.00 vet bill, and two very sick dogs. The thinner dog was so gaunt that the vet said he could barely feel his stomach. He was debating whether to put him on an IV or not. I called Deenie’s the following day to notify them of the bacteria in case other patrons called. The girl on the phone said she had never heard of it and that she would tell the girls to clean the pens more. I am aware that dogs get sick, and I do not fault Deenie’s for that, however when my dog is close to needing an IV and there has been no attention paid to him I feel that he was neglected. What if we boarded them for seven days? Would he be ok? At what point do dogs receive care and attention at Deenie’s? And as a final side note I do want to mention that our expectations were high because of our previous experience at Paradise Pets. When we picked up one of our dogs after a one night stay they had filled out a behavior report, monitored his eating, and discussed with us that he seemed shy and reserved. And Deenie’s didn’t even realize that our dog was severely dehydrated, and had not eaten for his entire stay. Please take caution before taking your dog to Deenie’s, you really have no idea what happens when you leave.
