Founded in 1884 in Birmingham, the mission of the YMCA is to put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy body, mind and spirit. YMCA programs work to guide youth, enrich families, enhance health and promote intercultural understanding. The YMCA has numerous branches including facilities in North Jefferson, Shades Valley, Camp Cosby, Alabaster and Shelby County. A membership in the Birmingham YMCA gives access to every YMCA in Birmingham and no one is turned away for an inability to pay.
