Inside the root(s) are small, thin passageways containing pulp tissue that branch off from the top chamber through the root tip. The pulp tissue is soft and is a collection of connective tissue, blood vessels and nerves that help to build the surrounding hard tissues of the tooth during development. The pulp is important during a tooth’s growth and development. Once a tooth is fully mature, it can survive without the pulp.

General Dentistry
After receiving a B.A. degree at the University of Rochester, Dr. Valencia earned his DMD degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He spent one year in a hospital residency program at Staten Island University Hospital, and then practiced general dentistry in Delaware County, Pennsylvania for four years before returning to the University of Pennsylvania’s Advanced Dental Education Program in Endodontics. As part of the post-graduate residency program, he was able to participate as an instructor at the school’s Microscope Training Center, sharing knowledge of the use of microscopes in conventional endodontic treatment as well as in endodontic microsurgery.
