Preventive dentistry is the practice of caring for your teeth to keep them healthy, such as daily brushing and regular dental cleanings. To maintain optimal oral health, the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends visits to the dentist at regular intervals determined by your dentist after carefully evaluating your risk factors. These practices are designed to ensure that teeth are clean, strong, and healthy. Children should be getting into a proper oral hygiene routine at an early age and should have their first dental visit before the age of 1.
Fluoride Treatment
Everyone benefits from preventive dentistry. Children, in particular, benefit because it allows their newly developing adult teeth to come in strong and healthy. Dental sealants and topical fluoride treatments help prevent decay in your children’s teeth. Crowns
You may have had crowns in the past or your dentist now is recommending a crown for your tooth. A crown procedure is done to protect a weak or cracked tooth and prevent it from splitting the root – or to repair a tooth that has broken already. Crowns can also be used as part of a Smile Makeover to improve badly discolored or worn teeth.
Bridges
If you are missing more than one tooth, but still have healthy gums and surrounding teeth, a multiple-implants solution may be your best option. Two implants are placed and a fixed bridge is attached on top of them.

Root Canal Treatment
Of course not! Root canal therapies are done on millions of teeth each year. The teeth are saved by relieving pain and making the tooth healthier by removing the infection. It is a very common and typically a very painless procedure.

Dentures
Traditional dentures are the “plates” that most people think of when they hear “denture”. They rest on the gums and rely on suction to stay in. They must be removed at night while sleeping.
Overdentures
The benefit of an implant overdenture is that instead of being retained solely by natural suction, these overdentures are retained by implant. You can remove them when you want them to come out. Because the implants are what holds the overdenture in place, you will not need adhesive paste!

Otherwise, here is the quick version of my dental story. After completing 4 years of dental school studies, I continued to learn via a 3 year residency in Prosthodontics (think replacement/rebuilding of teeth). These 3 years were highly educational in rebuilding smiles, dental implants, and overall helping patients with complex issues. After residency I joined the wonderful team at Bedford Dental Care. Over the last 15 years, I have had the wonderful experience of helping many people re-gain their smiles, function, and health; while continuing to learn from many mentors and continuing education sources.

My grandfather was my dentist for a long time until he retired, so I’m always very hesitant to let anyone else look at my teeth. I came here with my boyfriend when he had an appointment and was impressed with the office. The staff members are all fantastic, the office is run really well, my hygienist is always amazing, and Dr Guthrie is awesome. I’ve had everything from regular cleanings to my wisdom teeth extractions here and felt well cared for every time. Friendly professionals who legitimately care, I’ll come here for the foreseeable future!

Orthodontics
Getting to that level requires skill, experience, and a commitment to continued learning. This is one of the reasons I was so excited to join Bedford Dental Care in 2014. I absolutely LOVE collaborating with such an amazing, committed team of dentists, each with their own strengths (seriously, the team here is awesome). My greatest emphasis is on restorative dentistry and orthodontics utilizing Invisalign clear aligners. I have been extremely fortunate to have studied under and been mentored by some of the brightest minds in those fields.

Aligning the teeth properly leads to better force distribution – it spreads the load evenly across the teeth. Do you have teeth that are showing signs of wear? Invisalign can help slow that down.
Braces
Daily flossing is also recommended. Flossing helps to clean out the tight spaces between the teeth. If you have braces, you may need to use floss threaders to get between the brackets.
