The Jefferson County Appraisal District is responsible for the administration of homestead and absolute exemptions. It manages an appraisal district office that conducts the reappraisals of properties, as well as notifies the public, taxpayers and taxing entities about matters affecting their property values. The district also determines exemption and special appraisal requests. The Jefferson County Appraisal District manages an appraisal review board that determines taxpayer protests and taxing unit challenges. In addition, the district maintains the maps of properties. It sets the value of properties yearly. The Jefferson County Appraisal District uses mass appraisal techniques to appraise more than 140,000 parcels of properties.
