***WARNING*** AVOID GIVING THIS MERCHANT YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER/INFO IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. I had rented from this merchant twice in the past without any problems, but on the third occasion, I damaged the vehicle, and that's when the nightmare began. Just as with the other negative reviews described below, he charged my credit card thousands of dollars without showing me a bill or estimate, without so much as a phone call, e-mail or anything else. The charge was placed under the name BAYONNE RENT A CAR, INC.

Getting him to submit the required paperwork to my insurance carrier was a battle, and gone was the friendly/helpful attitude of the past. He was very combative/hostile, hung the phone up on me twice, and was extremely rude to the insurance agent during a three-way telephone conversation. The insurance company reimbursed most of what he charged me, at least what he could document as physical repair work. However, they denied almost $700 that he claimed as "loss of use", but could not document. Since I had no intention of just letting him pocket that amount of money, I informed him I would dispute it with my credit card. They re-credited most of the disputed amount to my card, upon which the merchant retaliated and charged my card AGAIN for an even higher amount using a different merchant name, SENSIBLE CAR & TRUCK RENTBAYONNE NJ.

To make a long story short, it took MONTHS to resolve this issue, because the merchant kept disputing the reversed charges, and it would lead to successive 90-day periods in which they were allowed to provide documentation. The documentation never came of course, and the merchant eventually accepted his "mistake", but I never recovered the full amount I was disputing, and spent hours and hours on the phone with my credit card company trying to resolve the issue.

THEREFORE, I *DO NOT* RECOMMEND RENTING FROM THIS MERCHANT. READ ALL OF THE OTHER REVIEWS AND PAY CLOSE HEED, AS THEY SOUND SUSPICIOUSLY SIMILAR TO MY OWN STORY.

Terrible people and terrible ...

Terrible people and terrible service.
Do not give your credit card number. You will be charge hundreds of dollars without any explanation.
My story is very similar to the stories from the other customers of "Sensible Car rental"/ "Bayonne Rent A car"/"Moving Truck Rental in Bayonne, NJ at Sensible Car & Truck Rental" - one terrible company operating under 3 different names.

STAY AWAY, SCAMMERS ... This is the worst Uhual place ever the worst experience i ever had in renting a Uhual, the guy there was nasty, rude and unprofessional and screaming, i was ripped off when we went to rent the van they said anything over 75 miles we will be charged 95 per day use and 75 miles included and any extra miles is .39cent, we wanted to return the truck the same day and the guy told us they do not have a drop off box and to return it the next day and we parked the van on their block and bought keys to them the next day, now they charged my credit card $213.96, and i paid $20 cash for the extra day. this is false advertising and rip offs. i will never rent from them again. and i will give the worst reviews. this is unprofessional. who pays over $200 for using a van for a day. i will contact the main Uhual office so they can be aware of this.

I can't believe what these people did to me!!!! I never picked up the van and they took $1105 out of my account. The Paul guy talks fast to throw you off. He lied to me for a week. A woman helps him to rob customers. They have the worst customer service I've ever encountered. These people has to stop this. 0 STARS

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. They are lying scumbags who will charge you for anything possible. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM unless you want to end up paying thousands of dollars for false damages. Why have a website that clearly states $33.99 for a compact car when you'll just charge $49.99? These are not good people.

They actually charged me $250 weeks after I returned a vehicle.I just happened to notice the charge on my card. When I questioned them about it they apologized and informed me that he will reimburse my card. Well that was 4 months ago and they have no intention of paying me back. Now I have to change my card number because these people will try to steal from you. They should be in jail!

Good clean cars, terrible customer service. I will never rent here again. They are polite when you are taking the car out but while returning any question you ask and the response will leave you fuming, they charge your card without letting you know and just based on the contract. They are legally right, but I would never rent here again.

oh my god I can't believe how rude this Paul guy is. I called him to ask him a question and he rushed me off the phone then I called back and said why are you being so rude he just said you know what don't need your business "I'm cancelling your reservation"and just like that I was left with no mini van to bring my son and his friends to his 18th birthday surprise party don't do business this with these people if they are having a bad day they will make sure to mess yours up too!

I spoke with PAUL from Sensible Car & Truck Rental 910 Broadway Bayonne, NJ 07002, The guy rushed me off the phone, called me a racist, because I said the other person I spoke to had a Indian accent, I'm biracial half Spanish/white, Then he says I don't care where your traveling, just have the van back at this time, super rude then he says I don't want to even rent to you then hangs up. I had my wife call and he treated her the same way. I don't know how this person can have a job interacting with people! It's obvious he has no people skills. If he’s the owner I feel sorry for his business. Once again his name is PAUL!!

Rented a car from there and had no problems,great service and new clean cars.i was reading some of the other reviews..it seems like some of these people do not understand if you break it or damage it ,you will have to pay for it.why do u think car rental company's ask for your credit card for,also hotels ask for this also .remember folks if you damage a car that you rented no matter how big or small the damage is,you will have to pay for it.And by the way Paul is a very nice guy,he does his job.

I rented a car from this establishment and dealt with Paul who was a very nice guy he made the process so easy. However after I returned the car Paul said it had a scratch the crazy thing was when I rented my car it was the day of the Northeaster storm right after the hurricane we had so you couldnt see the car that day because of the snow and the crazy weather. Paul brought in a diagram of the car and put x's on it where scratches and dents where and told me this is what I will see when I could see the car. I did bring the car back 13 days later and paul told me there was a new scratch on it but that scratch was already there. Of course Paul told me not to worry about it 3 diffrent times. 2 days later Paul charged my credit card without my knowledge for $1200. I called Paul 13 times with no return call I always got he's not in etc. Beware of your credit card at this establishment they may seem nice but they are out to take advantage of you. DO NOT LET THEM MAKE COPIES OF YOUR CREDIT CARD BE WARNED!!!!

I rented a car 8/13 /12 for week I gave him my credit card he hold deposit when I return the car back I ask Paul when would my deposit will be back to my card he told me within 10 days, ten days past I called him back Paul was so rude to and told me that he never told me that and now I have to wait 9/10 I just called paul today and ask him about my money and he giving me the run around. I was very disappointed. I rented a 15 passenger van for a week, from Saturday to Saturday. The van was in fantastic shape and ran well; everything seemed like it was going fine. However, I got the van back 30 min late from my scheduled time. In their policies, Saturday returns after hours count as Monday returns. So they charged me for TWO WHOLE EXTRA DAYS. According to the contract I signed, that was their legal right. However, I've rented cars/trucks/vans numerous times, and I've NEVER before had a company charge me for being 30 min late to a drop off time. Again, they were within their legal rights. They were unwilling to change their charges, saying that they needed to rent the car that day. That just struck me as funny, as they had about 5 unused vans sitting in their lot. Again, they were within their rights- I was late - but their charges are unreasonable and no one else in their industry is such a stickler. Go with someone more gracious.

Car rental company in Bayonne decides to charge customer with an additional $57 for a day. The customer was late 1 hour, despite he is only one block away from the car rental paradoxically called Sensible. "The man was rude, and told me not to put my coffee mug on his counter". After inspecting the car, which was returned with a full tank of gas and less than 300 miles driven in 6 days, "Sensible" tried to squeeze another $250 for smoking in the car. Fortunately, this customer made his transaction with a debit card, and was able to transfer the money to his savings account. http://www.sensiblecarandtruckrental.com/ is now calling the customer because he left without paying?
