I wish I had read the reviews first. I did research but I didn't find these before I went...

She has a terrible bedside manner. She seems to take it personally if you have questions like you are questioning her expertise. Very arrogant. Also, she overcharged me for some unnecessary ointments that weren't even packaged with instructions.

Outdated office.. from the looks and experience of it, you would think it would cost way less. I decided to do the surgery elsewhere where I could get another procedure done at the same time and when I asked for records to be sent to the other place, she only sent the invoice and not her notes or anything helpful. She may be a good doctor but there is something off with her and I think another doc would be a better choice.

I recently took my Basset Hound to see Dr. Powell for a problem with cataracts. She was very helpful and caring, carefully explaining our treatment options including costs. We decided to perform the surgery in the worst of her two eyes. The surgery appears to have been successful. Dr. Powell has consistently follow-up with my wife and me by phone to be certain that the patient is doing fine. On a side note, I've read the other reviews with respect to cost, but found her fee appropriate and similar to other vets in Atlanta.

I took my dog Curley to see Dr. Powell after a horrible experience at a specialty practice in Sandy Springs with another animal eye doctor. I wish I would have gone to Dr. Powell first; maybe my dog would not be blind in one eye if I would have. However, thank goodness I did seek a second opinion with Dr. Powell. She has been treating my dog for close to a year now and he has made great progress with relieving pain and redness in his blind eye as well as keeping his other eye healthy and full of sight. Yes, the eye drops that she recommends work and my dog is living proof. You can elect to get prescriptions filled at your local pharmacy. I am a VERY PARTICULAR Pet Parent and I strongly recommend Dr. Powell to all of my friends. Thank you Dr. Powell for all of your hard work.

I hope anyone wanting services from Dr. Gail-Powell Johnson will do their research BEFORE they make an appointment. I did not (and I usually do). I was desperate. After two "regular" vets saw my dog and she continued to have a cloudy eye that was bothering her, I made an appointment with Atlanta Vet Eye Clinic. I was told $150-$180 for the office visit alone. Is "dry eye" the ONLY diagnosis this doctor has to proffer (judging from other reviews here)? WATCH out and ask for medications that can be filled by a human pharmacist. She wanted to charge me $40 for a small tube of ointment that I got at WalMart for $4 (1,000% markup!). She charged $36 for another prescription that WalMart carries for $16. After 4 days of administering six different types of medications for an alleged "dry eye" diagnosis, my dog's eye still looks the same, if not worse. I had experience with Dr. Susan Winston (who is now retired), an ophthalmologic vet, with other dogs I had, and she was fabulous. I gave this review two stars because the office was clean, the receptionist very nice and efficient, but I do not believe Dr. Powell gave a proper diagnosis of "dry eye" for my dog's ailment. BTW: she charged me $10 per pill (times 7 pills -- $77) for a medication that a regular vet would charge about $30 for. VERY disappointed with her rate of markup on the meds. Also, she has not called for a follow-up to find out if my dog was improving at all or if there was any sign of allergic reaction to any of the SIX medications she prescribed for the "dry eye." Try GVS in Gwinnett County if you need a good professional group of specialized DVMs, or UGA in Athens (as one reviewer suggested). Powell HAS gone down on her recheck fee (maybe because she read some reviews). It is now $55. But, really, she is marking up the meds WAY TOO MUCH and that's how she's making her money. It was interesting to learn on here that she is NOT certified. I guess that explains why she does NOT require a Vet referral for her services. After a complete week of using the medicine (6 of them) regiment prescribed by Dr. Powell, my dog's eye is at least the same if not worse. My dog has been wearing an e-collar and been pampered to the max for 6 days, and she is not better.
