SCARC, founded in 1957, was formerly known as the Sussex County Association for Retarded Citizens. The center, located in Augusta, N.J., provides a wide range of services for individuals with developmental disabilities. It conducts various programs for the empowerment of people with mental and physical disabilities, and it also provides various support services for their families. The center operates several residential, employment, community and transitional programs. It also offers a variety recreational activities and programs for children and adults. Its residential services program offers community-based individual and group living opportunities for people who are above 21 years of age. The program is designed to provide each individual with self-confidence and to encourage community participation. SCARC also conducts the Harvest home food program that allows persons with disabilities to participate in the mainstream of community life by delivering food to the residents of Sussex County, N.J.
