Dental Sealants
At Murphy Family Dental our goal is to prevent dental disease as much as possible. We want to start seeing our patients as children, care for them right up to adulthood and never find a cavity! One way cavities can be prevented is through the placement of sealants.

Fillings
Amalgam fillings are the silver-colored fillings used in the back of the mouth on the chewing surfaces. They are strong and long lasting, and since they are placed in an area where they do not show, their appearance is not critical to the patient’s smile.
Veneers
Although they are not used to restore decayed teeth, they can be a very successful way to correct stained, crooked, spaced, or misshapen teeth, without any drilling or destruction of healthy tooth structure. They are sometimes used as an alternative to orthodontia to correct minor spacing problems.
Crowns

Bridges
Before implants, if a patient did not have two or more strong teeth to serve as anchors for a fixed bridge, it was sometimes impossible to restore one or more missing teeth, particularly in the back of the mouth where chewing takes place. Implants changed all that for many people, allowing dentists to offer restorations that look and feel and function naturally.

Root Canal Treatment
Inside each tooth the pulp runs like a thread down through the root, providing nutrients and nerves to the tooth. When the pulp is diseased or injured, the pulp tissue dies. If you don’t remove it, your tooth gets infected and you could lose it. Years ago, if you had a tooth with a diseased nerve, you’d probably lose that tooth. Today, with root canal therapy, there’s a good chance the tooth can be saved.

Periodontal Surgery
Our hygienists also work with periodontal specialists to maintain patients who have had periodontal surgery, and in many cases regular cleanings, along with scrupulous home care, can actually improve a patient’s periodontal condition. And although our patients don’t diagnose tooth decay or other dental conditions, they are alert to changes in a patient’s mouth that should be investigated by a dentist or medical doctor.

Dentures
Our goal at Murphy Family Dental is to preserve your natural teeth for the rest of your life. For some patients, however, there comes a time when the best course of action is to extract teeth and replace them with either a partial denture or a full denture. If you are considering one of these options, our doctors will be happy to meet with you and discuss the alternatives available to replace missing or nonrestorable teeth.

Dental Implants
Digital x-rays deliver much less exposure to radiation than traditional x-rays, and are superior diagnostic tools as well. Our recent addition of a Cone Beam CT scanner allows our doctors to accurately determine whether a patient is an appropriate candidate for dental implants.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
Resume eating and drinking with caution. Once the gauze packs have been removed it is fine to eat and drink. The food shoulder be very soft, requiring very little chewing (yogurt, pudding, scrambled eggs) and the beverages should not be carbonated (fruit juice, water). Do not eat or drink anything extremely hot until the numbness is completely gone so as not to burn your lip or tongue. Frequently a long lasting anesthetic is used for oral surgery, so it is not unusual for the numbness to remain up to twelve hours.
